Ok mom's who have gotten calls during basic. I would be very grateful for your input and advice. I work nights (which I am sure explains the name I chose) So I sleep during the day with my phone off. I am scared to death that I am going to miss a call from my daughter which would devastate me. At this point I know it isn't an issue so I turn it off, but I know at some point I need to worry about it. Are there times the calls are more likely to happen than others? We were told she would probably get a call Christmas day and I plan to leave my phone on that day. But given the traffic my phone gets while I sleep this is not a good plan everyday because I am easily awakened. So I guess I am just wondering if there is rhyme or reason to phone call schedule or if I should just get used to not sleeping? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!

Our son was in BC 2 years ago - we got 1 phone call on a weekday because he needed to get some info.  Other than that our calls usually came on the weekend - I think it was Saturday - maybe 3 total.  But there is no rhyme or reason as to how they schedule them.....he was in a 904 division so he didn't get as many calls as some others but you just never know.  I would hate for you to miss a call but you are right, you will probably get woke up by more nuisance calls than you would a call from your SR.  And some divisions don't get more than their "I'm here" and "I'm a Sailor" call.  Oh our "I'm a Sailor" call did come on a Wednesday afternoon - as we were walking out the door to catch our plane to PIR!

Thanks for the input! I will have to figure something out soon!

I received my phone call last Saturday and approx. 1:15 PM.

Who told you she would get to call Christmas Day? If it was the recruiter, recruiters don't schedule the calls. You MAY get one, but it is more likely that you won't given the number of recruits at the RTC and the number of phones in the phone banks. RDC's schedule calls. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls. It even tells some times that you can relax and know that you most likely will not miss a call.

Some in your situation have instructed the recruit to call his/her own cell phone and it has worked well. Others should not be calling your recruit's phone since she is at BC.

Yes it was the recruiter who said she would probably get a call Christmas day. I thought about using her phone as well but wasn't sure her little friends would think things through. I think I am going to get a temporary toss phone and get her that number. It seems safer and she would be the only one with the number.

That works too.
