Hi ladies i have tons of questions and in need of insight, my husband has just recieved orders and he is being sent to New Hampshire then Groton and then California. He has spoken with someone of higher stature and they informed him that the navy will only move me to either New Hampshire or Groton and then to California. My main question is, Has anyone else experienced this situation? How did you prepare yourself?

Generally, any dependent move must be longer than six months to be paid for by the Navy.  They also do not like to move dependents around a lot.  I do know plenty of spouses go to Groton because the training there can be quite long.

Speaking to someone "of higher stature" is as bad as talking to a recruiter.  Not unless they work in personnel or the household goods/transportation office.  His orders will indicate if you are authorized a move or not.  Usually with a training command, they check in first then receive direction on how to go about moving their family member.

Prep you can do now: begin sorting your home out right this minute.  Create a folder to hand carry all your most important paperwork.  Begin sorting out your belongings, toss, sell or donate anything which is old or broken or unneeded.  Do not pack anything but your clothing and small valuable items, if you pack household goods, that negates the insurance on those items.  Make sure your vehicle is road worthy if you are taking it; the Navy does not ship cars. Are you moving with pets?

He spoke with his ship captain and no pets will be moving with me.

No pets simplifies the move, and finding housing/a rental.

The CO?  He's in the fleet already?  If you are in the same area, the ombudsman and the FRG can provide good specific help in who to contact.  If not, he should be talking to Personnel, they usually have a good checklist to guide him through who to contact and what  steps to take.

Every set of orders has a number/code on it which is used for travel orders, packouts, reimbursements and so on.  If he has hard copy orders, he should make sure you have a copy, and a POA.  That makes it easier to deal with the packers, and so on, if he cannot be present.

Yes he's in the fleet, this will be my first move. Currently in in cali and hes in CT
