 Hello all,

So I am in need of some advice and support. My boyfriend of 4 years just left for Navy bootcamp, he is supposed to call me when he lands in Chicago, and I am a mess. I do not want to move from my couch in our apartment and I cannot eat. Everything reminds me of him. I have lived with him in this apartment for the past year and we have always been attached at the hip in college. I just miss him so much and I cannot stop crying. I feel like a part of me is missing.

I think my problem is that I am looking too far ahead. Graduation cant come soon enough! but I am dreading going through the long distance in A school. He will stay in Chicago for a year after bootcamp in A school. I have gone from being with him 24/7 to just being alone. I know I need to keep busy but I just have no desire to do anything :(

We know we are going to get married but we wanted to wait until we both can establish our careers and we don't want to rush into anything for military benefits. I know we will get through this I dont mean to be so negative its just these are my feelings right now.

Reading others discussions and blogs on this forum has already helped me so much but I would really appreciate anything whether its experiences or just anything about getting through bootcamp. I feel like its so much unknown and its killing me. My other half is gone :(

thank you

Please find things to keep yourself busy.  You HAVE to keep yourself preoccupied, or it will tear you up.  I have been a girlfriend of a military person, and now am a mother of one.  I sat around and cried for days when my boyfriend left years ago. The only thing that will help, for real, it finding something else to distract you.  You can do this.  We all believe in you!

<3 Becky

thanks Becky ! It has been 6 days now since he went to bootcamp and something I have found to help is going to the gym and training with a personal trainer ! it has boosted my confidence and also really takes my mind off of the fact that I miss him. Thank you for your support <3

Something that helps me is changing my perspective to I want to make him as proud of me as I am of him.  When you can't get up off the couch ask yourself, would he want you there?  I also try to remember if we are miserable that doesn't make it easier for them to do what they need to do.  Make sure you have some stories of things you did while he is away.  He will have stories and you wouldn't want to say I couldn't move from the couch. I know it hurts when you feel like your heart is missing.  Hang in there!!

1 proud mom thank you I totally agree :) that couldn't be more accurate ! Similar to that perspective, I also have started waking up early and just being more productive. I figure if he is up early and working hard at something I can do the same ! We struggle together and can accomplish great things together no matter how far apart we are !

I totally understand your pain.. My daughter left 3/2 and I didn't think it would be that hard since i have 2 other children but boy- was I wrong! It literally feels like she's deceased! ( sorry for the bluntness, I have no other way to put it). I could not go in her room and I just felt like family and friends didn't understand.. Came on this site and there's so much love and support here and trust me when I say we understand! What really has helped me was writing her. Write even before you get his address.. as times goes by it gets better. Take this time to learn about the Navy and what he's doing everyday. If you're spiritual , read your bible. It helps.. Try and understand that what you feel is normal and this is someone who you have been with everyday so you have to adjust to your new norm. Me and my daughter loves wearing makeup together and that's one way we connected. After she left, I stopped wearing it and I had mentioned it in a letter that I stopped and she said she would want me to wear it so the other poster is correct.. would he want you feeling that way? It takes time dear and we are here for you. It will get better.. allow yourself to mourn him being away so you can start a journey that's healing.. You will be fine. I am here if you just want to vent. Take care:)
