I'm new to this so I hope this doesn't sound naive - how can it be pushed up? I could see it being behind if people don't get it or something but sooner? Also, do parents typically go to power school and prototype graduation? My son will be leaving for OCS in June and has all that ahead of him and I don't know too much! Congrats Mary on your son's upcoming graduation! Lynda

Welcome Lynda.... I went to the boot camp graduation.... Bc of some confusion I missed the PS graduation and I'm so sorry I did....I plan on going to the Prototppe graduation..... These are such amazing accomplishments my Son and all of our sailors make.... I want to honor all of them....Thank you Lynda....I am so proud of my Son/Sailor... Have a great day...Mary

Hi freckles - congrats to your son on OCS!  Most of us here have enlisted sailors and I don't know if it's the same for officers, but I would guess they would still have Power school grad and of course Proto grad...Hopefully someone with an officer will be able to give you more info.

On the enlisted side parents do go to any/all of the grads - A school, Power, Proto.  Power is usually the "biggest" but proto is their "final" grad.  If you look on the main page of this group (go back a few pages) you should find some discussion that we just recently had about which graduation to attend.  Everyone has a different take on it - it's what's best for you.  If you can go to all of them then that's what I would do!  We went to BC, A, & Proto.  We had plans to go to power but our son had to re-comp so he didn't get to walk in the power school grad.....

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask - hopefully we can help you out!

Thank you...Gina.....My sailor said it was a rumor going around....I think the Navy does it intentionally to keep them on their toes....I just want to be prepared/ready/plan ahead.... If I can... I don't want to miss the graduation....thx for the tip about the lodge... Much appreciated... Have a great day... Mary

Since I've been on here I've not heard of proto grad ever being pushed up like that either - delayed, yes, but not moved up.  My son just graduated proto in Ballston Spa in January (and his was delayed numerous times!  I think the original grad date was to be in October).

We went for the graduation and we stayed at the Hyatt Place - Saratoga/Malta. It's only about 5-10 minutes from the Milton Community Center where the graduation was held.  Once before we visited NY and we stayed at the Roosevelt Inn & Suites.

Hotels don't really do anything special for the graduation - and not a lot of families go so you shouldn't have a problem getting a room. (I think we did mention we were AAA members & that it was for our sons graduation & they did give us a discount.) But then again if it is in the summer that is when horse racing season is happening and then you may have a little trouble getting a room.....I would say book as soon as you have an idea of a date - just check their cancellation policy.  You can always cancel & re-book as the dates change!

Ballston Spa is a nice place to visit - I hope you are able to make it for the graduation!

they might be pushing them thru before the summer shutdown. If you son has only a few sign offs left and has his oral board date then maybe its true. My sons class took 8 months to get thru with all the delays, but was always told it would be 9 months. Navy keeps you guessing all the time. Prototype is probably the hardest one to figure out. Good luck. Mine graduates Friday 1403

Thank you for the insight into how some of this works....yay... For your son....CONGRADULATIONS to him and you.... How wonderful that he is graduating ....... Good luck to him.... And you....1405..Proto BS... Mary m&m
