Hey. Good morning. I have to drop my son off at his recruiter on May 4th. He will get sworn in at MEPS on the 5th and off he goes. When he first enlisted in the fall it seemed so far away and now the time is flying. Anyone else out there who is getting REALLY EMOTIONAL? He is my oldest.

Yup, me too. Mine leaves the same day as your son. He is my only child. Ivr I've been emotional , really emotional since he signed up in October. I am in Phoenix. Where are you? Hard to believe we only have a week and a half. I'm having a send off party for him Sat. It's always just been he and I. Don't know what I'm going to do without him in my day to day life. I feel ya! Hugs

Morning ladies,

I drop my daughter off May 4th and she will get sworn in "officially" "officially" on May 5th and off she goes to BC in Great Lakes.  I've been containing my feelings thus far but as it gets closer I'm trying to figure out my feelings.  I'm excited yet sad to see her go but I know it is going to be the best ever for her.  I will just have to finally let go and let God handle from that point on.  mykidsmom, where are you located?  I'm in Indy.

The hardest thing is letting go of our SR's.  I will not kid you, that day of swearing in is quite emotional.  We said our "goodbyes" twice as we did not think we were going to be able watch the brief swearing in.....so we said our goodbyes the evening before at the hotel only to be pleasantly surprised with the late night phone call telling us where and when to be there the next morning for swearing in before his flight.  Spoil them with their favorite foods, etc before they leave!

I agree....so hard to let them go, mxtess1, but you know that they will all succeed if they have a strong goal to fix upon.  Having  a strong faith will help.....I cracked up a couple phone calls ago when my son said he joined the choir at BC.  Never in a million years would he have done that at home.  Faith in any way, shape or form will help the strong roots and foundation that we have given them.

MYKIDSMOM: Boy do I understand how you feel, I promise you it will get better, sometimes we need to give our children space to become more independent and for them to enjoy their new life. Again, who am I to talk lol.... I was probably the worst. Worrying about their welfare can heighten the feelings of loss and sadness. This is a great site and everyone is here to help, the admins are great. Cat mom with wonderful, beautiful scriptures I look forward to them everyday. Whenever you get down and feeling sad talk we ALL listen here. good luck

I would love to thank the person who started this years ago.  It is such a wonderful support system.  Your family and friends really care about your recruit but they truly do not understand what this experience is like for parents.  That fact they we are all going through this together and learning so much from those who have experienced before us is so helpful.  Thank you all.

Yes, I agree with you totally.  My son, the youngest, leaves on the 5th also.  I thought I was more OK about this, but now I see when people ask me about him, I feel my eyes well up.  Guess they will all meet up on the 5th.  Good luck to all of them.  God bless all of our sons/daughters.  Maybe see you all at PIR.  Are you going to Sarge's "Meet and Greet'?  I am planning on going and as soon as I know his PIR date, I will reserve 2 seats with them.

Hello... I totally understand
Your feeling. I'm still very emotional
about everything. My son left April 16th.
It's hard because we've really
Talked literally every day. There
Were a few here and there when
He was in college. He's a major player
In our household. He's the youngest.
I would like you to know we are
All in this together and we'll help
You through this. God Bless.

My son left yesterday and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do when we said goodbye. The last 2 months since he got his ship date seemed surreal and went by fast.  Being an emotional person myself my son and I didn't talk about his decision to join the Navy very much because I didn't think I could talk about it without crying.  Yesterday we (his dad, sisters and I) spent the morning with him at MEPS and then almost missed saying goodbye at the airport because all the parking lots were full.  As luck had it we got to spend about 15 more minutes with him before he had to go to his gate. The tears definitely flowed all night...and I am sure will continue until I get the next phone call in 3 or so weeks.  Good Luck!

Getting everything set up for my son's send off party Sat and all I can do is cry. We've never lived apart. I think I need to join co-dependents anyonomous lol
I know it's only going to get harder before it gets easier. My son is the only one shipping from his recruiting office on the 5th,
Yes, I plan on going to Sarge's Meet and Greet
His recruiter told me they just had someone from RTC down to train recruiters and told them they they are giving recruits 2 phone calls after the arrival one, each of the first 2 weekends and then none till after battle stations. I hope this is true.

Try to focus on the party and how much he will enjoy seeing friends and family. Make sure you take lots of pictures,

Can someone tell me what "Sarges Meet and Greet is?"

My son enlisted in the fall and May 5th seemed so far away. Now I feel like I am at the top of a VERY emotional roller coaster and it keeps picking up speed. The time is going so fast. He is having a blast. I told him a few weeks ago to quit his job so he has just been working out and hanging out with friends. We are having a surprise party for him the day before he leaves so I have been trying to focus on how surprised he will be when he sees how many of his friends I have managed to get in touch with.

Here is the link to one of "Sarge's" pages.  A wealth of info regarding PIR day and also offers rides (for fees) from the airports and to PIR that morning.  Once I get the PIR date for my son, I am going to reserve a place at the Meet and Greet on this site.  Hope this helps.
