OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello, My son is 12/232 as well. He turned 19 in April and I have not spoken to him since he left. When he called I was in PA (at my parents) with no cell service. He did leave a message but less than 10 words! What do you say to a message machine? I haven't received any letters either. I hope your son is feeling better by now. My son is going to be HT and I believe he is staying in GL. He went to college for 1 semester and decided he wasn't exactly sure what he wanted to major in and said "I don't want to waste money if I don't know what I want to do" so here we are.

Hi Jenniferp! Welcome to our group! Your son is the youngest of our group so far I think. It's so great for us to all meet each other knowing that our boys are going through this together and probably know each other by now. I'm sure that you, like the rest of us, think about him every day and wonder what he's doing. Are you going to PIR? What about the meet and greet the night before? Were had one phone call and one letter so far.

Yes our family is going to PIR. My husband will be in California on work but he has already discussed with them he will be flying in to GL for PIR but has to leave later in the day. My daughter and I will be there for weekend to hopefully spend time with my son. I'm not sure about meet and greet. I certainly will try but unsure about husbands flight. Depends on when he comes in.

Learning acronyms today....what does HT stand for? My son's going into Aviation Ordnance (AO).

LOL yes, hull technician. More complicated than that. They maintain ships and systems. He does have to take some Engineering courses and will learn to weld and fix multitude of ships services. I'm unsure why he chose this. I think at MEPS they talked him into doing this. (my son is very naïve) He is a computer junkie and wanted to sign up for IT position but nothing was available. At least that is what he was told. I was disappointed at first with choice. But he said mom. Anything I do I will gain experience and if I do not stay in the Navy I will have a trade.

It's true that anything they choose will be valuable during their time in the Navy, but I can understand thinking ahead to post-navy life. Although... all I can think about right now is my son getting to PIR! :) It does sound like your son will be learning marketable skills and like he has a good head on his shoulders.

I think I may have caused the confusion, Navymom. I asked Jennifer about HT and in the same message said my son is going to be AO. I think you're right that it would be tricky to do both!

Hello Everyone. My son is also 12/232. He is 20. Moved away from home (but stayed close by) a few months after high school. We got one call last Saturday. He said he had the flu but hadn't been to a doctor. So I don't know if it was really the flu or he was just sick. We got a letter a few days ago. He seems to be doing well. The letter was written last Sunday and he said they got up at "0545 for early chow and then church." He said it was tough, but he knew it would be. That's what makes it such an accomplishment when they are finished! Does anybody have any idea what week and day they are in now?

When you have time, be sure to go back to the main PIR 7/10 page and read the discussion called "Battlestations: Their Final Test!" It answered some questions that I had and is a good explanation of what will be happening. Sounds grueling to me!

Hello my two new friends! Thanks for the heads up about this new subgroup, Navymom! I'm in the midst of quite a week so won't be here much. My daughter is graduating from high school and last Friday one of her schoolmates, (also the sibling of one her classmates) passed away very suddenly. The funeral was today and everyone is really hurting but also wanting to celebrate in this week of graduation, but not sure how to do that. It's hard, but we're muddling through. I'll be back next week (and reply to you then too, alamatlab)!
