Do all Nuke's depart from Midway when traveling to GC after their PIR?  Trying to plan our trip for graduation and being from the West.. it is easier for us to fly in and out of O'Hare.. but we want to see our sailor off before departing....  Is their departure time typically a certain time of day?  Thank you.

ED's Mom - the simple answer is NO.  Our daughter flew out of Midway, but I've talked to other Nuke parents whose children flew out of O'Hare.  We found out a couple days before.  Best bet if you have to book is use a carrier that flies out of both airports.  My husband was scheduled to fly out of O'Hare and called the carrier.  For a $50 change fee they moved his flight to Midway once he explained our situation, but it's not always a guarantee.

Thank you for your input!  I'm probably worry about it way too soon!  His PIR is not until June 10th.

Hi ED's mom, my sons PIR is June 10 too and then Nuke A school too...

How are you holding up?  It has been a long 2 weeks for me...  I'm anxious to hear his voice!

ED's mom, I can hardly stand it!  One mom posted that her son was in div 213 (same as my son) and he called because he was sick and he said his division might be able to call this sat or sunday... oh i am hoping an praying.  It did help me feel less scattered to be a ble to make plane and hotel reservations.  now we will start making PIR ribbons and designing something for the hotel rom door... and planning what I can bring to him...

We are in Div 213 too..and  Nuke as well.. looks like we'll be commiserating together for while :).. be sure to post if you get a call.. I will do the same.

Good to have a friend for this journey ;) how are you doing with all this?

Welcome to the Nuke family! Sailors can fly out of either airport, at any time. It all depends on when the "Detailers" can book seats. Since your sailor will be in uniform, you can get a pass to go to the gate with him.

If you go visit him at Goose Creek, have your sailor book you into the "Villas". Great place to stay and VERY reasonably priced.

And lastly, my sailor is an Instructor at Goose Creek. YOUR sailor will have MY sailor as an instructor during A-school!

Fair winds and following seas.

Great question! When is your son's PIR date?

His PIR is scheduled for June 10th.  I have booked the airfare and hotel..  but reluctantly!  So many potential variables.

We just booked ours too.. It was hard to commit without good details for where our son will be etc...
Our nuke pir's May 13th,friend me and I will update as soon as we confirm his plans. That would still be 4 weeks out from your PIR date and enough time to make arrangements.Maybe our kids will cross paths in GC. Where are you from ?
