Hello everyone, My wife shipped out for boot camp on the 24th of Sep. And has been assigned to Ship 12 Division 20. Her graduation is scheduled for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, what myself and her mom are wondering is what the schedule will be like that weekend? Will she be allowed additional liberty for the holiday weekend? Any info is greatly appreciated!

The big factor is where she goes for A school. Staying at Great Lakes means daytime liberty all weekend. Going anywhere else means she will most likely fly out early  on Friday with liberty Thanksgiving.

What is her Navy job, i.e. rating?

She is an E-3 Sonar Tech.

As an STG, her A school is in San Diego.  Could possibly fly out Friday, but could also be a Saturday departure.  I'd bet on Saturday as the Navy contracts the flights in set blocks.  Just a guess, she will be the only one with 100% info on her travel.

Thank you both so much for the info! She is still in the early phase of camp where she isn't able to send out letters yet, as you can imagine I've been scrapping and scraping up any smidgen of detail I possibly can.

Some general information: Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, so all sailors have it off unless they have duty, or their work dictates they work that day (I'm thinking of the Navy cooks who prepare the dinners and the RDCs).

Friday is not a holiday, but many will have it as a day of liberty.  In order to travel outside the 300 mile liberty limit that weekend, the student sailors would need to take leave.  Newly graduated sailors on PIR weekend have a 50 mile liberty limit.

Make reservations, the restaurants get crowded.  Or try to get a Navy Lodge room and reheat/cook a dinner.  I don't know if the chow hall allows guests, I have seen this on other bases.  They do a pretty good feed.

Hey Anti M, My son is in USS Missouri and is having a hard time getting his leave approved. They've made him fill out his chit three times so far. We are driving up there for Thanksgiving and hope that if his leave is not approved before Thursday that we will get to spend time on base with him. If it is a Federal holiday then will everyone be at liberty?
