My son comes home from Groton December 17th for Christmas! Sadly, he has to be back by 7 am on the 27th. Can't wait to see my boy!

Jen, it is hard to buy for them don't you think? They don't need clothes....anything electronic is probably not reasonable because of going off to a ship or like mine is going to an island in the Indian Ocean. We are getting him a webcam for his computer so we can see each other and we can skype while he is on the island. They say NEX cards are a good idea.

What are y'all thinking of getting your Sailors for Christmas? When I ask him, I get and I don't know, so yes I am stumped!
Thanks guys!

Mine was the same way, but after a while he started giving me much more info, I guess it was because he is more comfortable with what he is doing and where he is at. It just takes time...I talked to him tonight and he said the first bus leaves the base at around 4 am..just make sure he signed up to a bus to take him to the airport. Josh told me they fill up pretty fast because it was only 18 dollars. Ask all you want if we can help we will.

Thanks so much Josh's mom..I just can do so much better here at home with just a little info. My son is not one to give me much info so I like to know more than he gives. I appreciate it alot!

They start processing the Sailors out very early in the wee hours of the morning and the buses and taxis start taking the Sailors to the airports early in the morning. I think they will make sure they get them to the airport on time...remember they have been helping them do this for years. My son told me they just need to make sure that all valuables are locked in their locker because there will be workers and people through the buildings....they should all have lockers.

Hi! Was wondering when your Sailors where coming home for Christmas..I was told mine had to buy his own ticket at GL which he did..they gave him an 0950 flight on the 17th! I am wondering what is the earliest they can leave base for Ohare? I am really worried he is not going to make such an early morning flight. Anyone else know anything..also he was told he has to bring ALL personal belongings home due to the fact there has been thefts when others leave their stuff. Seems strange to me but that is what he was told. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Renie,
My son had PIR on 11/5/10 and is just now classing up (Monday). He did get to see us after PIR and on that Sat and Sun. As I understand it some sailors got an overnight, our son did not. He moved across the road on that Tuesday and has been there ever since waiting on class to start. It was really hard at first because they are used to being told what to do every minute in bc and if they don't go straight into school they are given "busy" work to do, I think my son got a little depressed but I just spoke to him , he is making new friends and they went to Chicago today and he sounds ready to start school Good Luck
