Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

The average form letter comes about 10 days after you SR arrives at bootcamp. I would say by next week you'll have it!

Sometimes recruits can get placed on what is known as "P-hold" during the processing days. P-hold is when they are awaiting more recruits to fill up a division. So that could be why you haven't recieved the form letter yet. Hang in there, it'll come!

It can affect their PIR date. It just depends how quickly they can fill up a division.

Most recruits will have 9 Fridays at the RTC, some will have 8 or 10 Fridays depending on how the divisions fill. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

AOMomma, since it has now been 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.
It is only fine to do that if at least two weeks have passed without The Form Letter.

My daughter arrived on 7/15 as well. I got her box the other day but no letter yet. I was informed that it would be about 10 days after arrival. I am wearing a path to my mailbox everyday....

My daughter was supposed to arrive on 7/15 but due to weather delays she got there 7/16 & was the only female with about 45 males at the airport when they got picked up. I missed the Fedex truck today with her box :( so I will have to wait until tomorrow. It's her letter to know how she is doing, even more than the form letter I want at this point. Miss my baby.

My son left 7/15 - PIR 9/11. Your daughter got a rough start, wow I bet she's tough! We missed our box, too, and drove 40 minutes down to FedEx after work to get his dirty socks. We haven't received our letter yet either, but I am fairly certain of his 9/11 PIR so I joined that group. You'll find lots of Moms anxiously awaiting the letter and the box. :) Lemonelephant leaves really good info about the groups and how to navigate this stuff. Big cyber hugs to you!

I ended up looking closer at the Fedex slip & saw I had time to get there so I drove to get her box. Never thought I'd be so happy to see dirty laundry. I'm still tying to figure out how to navigate this sight. I see some posts of parents getting form letter about 2 weeks after they get to RTC & personal letter a week later. I also saw one parent post they already know their SR division and they arrived 7/20, how do they know already? I'm not sure I understand how they work some of this.

That is great that you were able to go get "the box."
Some loved ones will get the address from the recruiter a day or so after the recruit arrived. If you choose to do that, do NOT send letters until you get The Form Letter.
Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:
1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.
2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.
3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

My son will be leaving soon. Your comment struck a chord in my heart! I can imagine you looking for that letter daily as I would. I'm learning through this site. Congratulations to all of those who have made the decision to enter to honor their country. I am a very proud mother for that. I know that while some newly graduated high school students are still sleeping until 2:00pm with no plans yet made for their future, my son has begun his future, is training for his profession and being paid for the most honorable thing that can be asked of him.
I hope you receive your letter very soon. Prayers to you, your family and all of those that have and continue to serve our country! -
