Hello Everyone!

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a CHIT form to get married 2-3 weeks into A school? How to go about getting one, and what it is exactly?!?!

The sailor goes and asks the LPO for a special request chit about two weeks before it needs to be completed.  These can be used for a number of things, marriage is just one of them (other).  The LPO should be able to show the sailor how to fill it out, and get it started up the chain.  You will not need to sign it, nor can a civilian submit one.

Here is a link to what one looks like, but you cannot use the printed out form, they are a triplicate form.

The sailor would choose "other", and put something along the lines of "Respectfully Request permission to marry (name of SO)."  The LPO would know what the preferred wording would be in their command.

thank you so much! Do you know what the chances of him getting his CHIT approved would be? Giving that he would probably fill it out shortly after arriving to A school . Also, is it common for them to ask for the weekend (Friday evening to Sunday evening) to get married? Or does he have a better chance of getting it approved if he only asks for a day or two (Friday evening to Saturday evening)? Our priority is to get the marriage license as soon as we can so we have a better chance of me being on his orders for his duty station (his rate is AD so the school time is about 7 weeks) we are hoping he will have some waiting time from basic to the actual date his school starts just so we have that little extra time to get it done before his orders start to get in place.

My fiancé submitted one for us to get married, one for him to be able to stay with me overnight and third one for something else. You have to get five signatures approving the marriage and it is JUST now getting approved! It took about two and a half weeks to finally get all five signitures and we still haven't heard back about the other chits. We are to get married next week when I fly out to his A school! They have to fill out everything even an exact date of marriage. The sooner he turns them in, the better! Hope this helps!

this helps tremendously! I was not aware he needed to fill out separate ones for the overnight stays, and another one for the marriage. How many days is he asking to stay with you?

He requested fri and sat! So Sunday night he will need to be back! I was so lost with the entire process but he said he took care of everything. Did he attend the marriage class the have? I know that's how he learned about everything and the steps that needed to be taken! My fiancé also told me it was mandatory!

he hasnt even left for boot camp yet! lol But im sure he will take it when he gets to A school.

I will give you some advice that my fiancé and I wish had taken, get married before bootcamp. Lol. Looking back, it would have been so much easier for us. We decided to wait but really wish we hadn't! if you do decide to, it will ensure you will be included in his orders! That's one of the main reasons we regret it. Although we will be getting married next week his CPC told him he will still be classified as a "single" sailor. I was torn for a couple of days. We were told if we had been married sooner he would have had the highest chance of being stationed near a base where we already live because he was the only one in his A school that will have a spouse (dependent). It made sense, it's saves money to just have him stationed near me rather than pay for us to move! We know better now, but it's too late. I hope everything works out for you and yours!

thank you for the advise! How long was he in school before you decided to marry?
