OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

One more thing. Liberty is different than live ashore. With phase 2 he can leave base but he still has to be signed out and sign back in. When he's phase 3 + he can come and go without signing in or out. He'll get live ashore way before he gets phase 3+. Until he's live ashore he can't really stay with you on normal days. Just the weekends

We found an apartment on our own. My husband had to go look at them without me. Once we found one I moved in. (paid for the move on my own) Then, once I was there he could apply for live ashore. It took a little over a month for him to get all of the signatures and for them to process everything. make sure he checks the status of his live ashore packet though. My husbands was sitting on a desk of someone who was on vacation for 2 weeks and no one realized it until he asked about it a billion times. Once he got the packet back he had to take it to psd to stop his meal plan and get BAS.

Eva, I just saw your reply. Thank you! It seems like I just kept being told we couldn't go because it wasn't a PCS move. It's so good to see someone that has been through the exact same situation. For off base housing, does he just apply to be able to live off base? I assume it's up to us to find the apartment and all. I also expect that I may have to move and then he can join us later, once he's earned the liberty? I think another poster said thirty days or so? We're figuring it out as we go. Ha.

My husband had to talk to relocation, get a bunch of papers signed, get a copy of his new orders and then we were able to start the process. It was pretty quick. We told them when we were moving out of our Apartment and they contacted us with a day and time that they were coming. I'm not sure how long it takes to get everything where it needs to be. We're having it put in storage because we're not going to be there for 2 weeks. They keep it in storage for up to 90 days.

Jenni1453, after you found out you were going to San Diego, how long did it take to get the movers there to pack you and how long does it take to transport your stuff to san diego? Also, what's the protocol to get the move underway after finding out where our next base will be? Thanks for any info.

That's good to know! My husband just filled the chit for me to move yesterday so I do not know anything about the moving process. The office told him they would send movers to help me but do we need an address before they will move me? Sorry I know that was kind of confusing

Katheryn, we actually just did that. My husbands c school is in San Diego. As long as then know you're military and you give them at least a months notice they're cool with it. I've only been here 7 months Our movers came yesterday and we move out on Saturday. One annoying thing, we both had to be there to sign the lease and do all the paperwork prior to move in, but I think everywhere is like that. You just have to plan ahead and be organized. Oh and if you do decide to live there, they only take checks.

Thanks Eva! I have seen it online but I do not think I have looked at it yet. Do you know how they are with breaking the lease to move? Cause he has A and C school up there so it would be near a year and a half that we would live there.

We live at fox crest. It's in waukegan. It's not a bad place to live but it's definitely not the nicest place I've ever lived either. But not the worst.Its relatively cheap. Very diverse. Cats and small dogs are allowed. Less than 15 mins to base. I looked at a place called imperial towers online but we never had a chance to go look. Keep in mind you'll be there for less than a year.

My husband is in A school at great lakes and we are trying to find somewhere to live near the base. Neither of us can go look at places and picking a place online is hard. Does anyone have a year suggestions?
