I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

E-2 makes $1717 before taxes.  Nothing more or less.

BAH calculator, enter the zip code and paygrade, it will show you the amount with and without dependents:

http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm

If your sailor lives with you, he probably is getting BAS (food for him).  If not, he probably is getting FSA (family separation pay).

Comment by Anti M on January 15, 2014 at 4:54pm

All base pay is exactly the same for any and every E-2.  Married or not.  A single E-2 is unlikely to get BAH, and possibly several other allowances.  The amount of taxes taken out may vary (state, etc).

BAH is set by zip code and pay grade.  It is with or without dependents, you can have no kids or ten and the BAh would be the same for a married E-2 in the same zip code.

I don't think I under stand your last comment abuon18. Are you saying that all E2s get the same pay regardless of how many kids they have and if they are married? That's not how I understand it. His roommates are all E2 and recieving about 1/2 what we are with 2 kids and myself...he went to MTI last pay check and was told that he had no idea...hints to why I'm asking you guys what we should be getting cause I'm lost.
Comment by MXNavyWife110 on January 15, 2014 at 3:16pm
It does. I was looking at the 1st and 15th as one month instead of the 15th and 1st as one month. He just got to Aschool so try we're catching up on a lot of pay, the checks have been ALL over the place so it been difficult to figure wth we are actually taking home. As soon as I feel like I've got it figured out, it changes lol
Comment by abuon18 on January 15, 2014 at 3:14pm
His first check would have any back BAH-so if he got his first check a month after he has been in, it would include a full month of BAH because they're paying him for the whole previous month. But once you receive all the back pay you will receive half your BAH on the 1st of the month & half on the 15th. Base pay is the same for everyone, regardless of if he has dependents and BAH is paid either with dependents or without dependents it doesn't matter how MANY dependents you have. If he is experiencing something outside of that then he needs to talk to admin to get it straightened out.

The check on the 15th is actually the first paycheck of the month. Lots of history there, but what you get on the 1st is really the end of month (EOM) pay. What they do is throw all pays and allowances into a pot (base pay, BAH, anything else you might get), then subtract deductions (taxes, insurance premiums, etc.) they divide this number in half. You get the first half on the 15th, the second half on the first.  Not sure why you would have gotten all the BAH at one time, I have never had that happen, unless they were catching up on pay that was overdue. Hope this helps!

Doesn't add up. Our first check had -1200 witch is what our BAH is and this check had not all the BAH on it. E2 pay with 3 dependants plus half of BAH is what we got this check. But the check on the first had no BAH, just the base pay. Before this month we were getting BAH all in one check.
Comment by abuon18 on January 15, 2014 at 1:58pm
BAH is split between the 1st and 15th paychecks. You'll get half your BAH on the 1st and half on the 15th.

I am so lost with how the pay and basic housing works. Someone care to help me out??
We were getting housing the first check now its split, or on the last? Idk and we were beer told so I had a BUNCH of stuff I couldn't pay untill this check and now I feel like this check wasn't what it should have been. Someone want to just explain it to me so I know what to expect and can budget accordingly?

I'm going to toss in here too.  First, if he's going to A school in Florida, there is no way to marry.  Lake County will not issue a license and immediately marry you two.  They issue on Friday, you can marry on Saturday... and he'll be at the airport at zero dark thirty.  Going to the courthouse is not going to happen.  End of discussion.

I agree with the others in your case.  You are just turning 19, you have not had much time to explore who you are and what you want outside of your parents home, or as half of a couple.  I'm guessing neither has he.  A school could be a huge opportunity for the two of you to fine tune yourselves, your interests and abilities.  Be sure you aren't simply in love with being in love.  Boot Camp makes them very homesick, and you are that symbol of home, they want to cling to an ideal version of a future with you.  Boot camp is a mental pressure cooker, NOT the place to be making long term life decisions.

Also, use the time during A school to set aside money... whether for moving to be near him or for you to go to school, set up a savings plan.  Learn about budgeting, bill pay and loans, insurance.  Find out how your parents run their home, what is involved.  He's learning a lot more than technical skills and military protocol, so should you.

The only people I encourage to seek marriage on PIR weekend are those couples who have a child together, and whose sailor is staying in Great Lakes for school.  The child benefits from a married sailor rather than a single sailor parent in many ways, plus healthcare for the mother if there's a baby on the way.  The very short schools such a PACT and BM have been very lenient about PIR weddings.  Other schools, get the chit, do the drill.
