Missing: we did the same.  Although, I was unsure about the laptop, so I withheld that.  I shipped it to him in CT during his first week.  Don't forget the phone charger, too.

Missing: he can have his phone & laptop at Groton. I met my Sailor at the airport Saturday after PIR. We had a few hours to spend with him before his flight to CT.

My boyfriend's PIR is this Friday. He is coming to Groton for A school. Can he bring his cell phone or laptop with him?

Sheliamf - he's definitely telling me he has made the right decision, which makes me feel great.  So nice to talk to him more often.  How about you?

It seems that some people do A school and then BESS, but others do BESS and then A school.  Must depend on their rating.

Glad to see my son wasn't the only one..he graduated BC 8/12, did his A school in Ft. Lee from Aug 30-Sept 30..didn't arrive in Groton until last week for Bess and his leave date has changed 2x in a weeks time!  All that waiting around can make them think twice, but Cheri is right, patience is definitely learned in the Navy :)

Diana, you can give them civilian clothes. They can keep them until they earn the priviledge to wear them. My son is close to having everything done .... awaiting others signatures. He's been there just over 2 weeks.

Kathy, my son also started BESS yesterday. Im glad, too. He was getting bored. How's your son doing?
Comment by KathyMmom on October 25, 2011 at 12:21pm
NavyMom - that's interesting.  My son had PIR 10/7 as well - he started BESS yesterday.  Thank goodness, because even with the various work he did, he was bored silly!  He volunteered for everything he heard about, and a couple of things that he went in search for which I think will prove to be very fun for him ongoing.  Love your son's attitude in this.  There is a reason for sure.
