Are there any other moms out there that have sons going to WA soon?
Comment by momofanavyson on October 7, 2011 at 9:26am
I can't wait as my son is coming home tonight! He will be home until the 20th and then it is off to WA. I have not seen him since Grad of BC which was the end of April. It seems like forever.

Val-ACD- thank you so much!  I thank the Lord every day for my husband, my children and my family.  We are really looking forward to some cooler weather especially coming from Arizona.  Last week our temps were running in then 100's still, now it's a little cooler and it's a nice break.

I am enjoying being part of the Navy family.  Everyone on this site have helped me get through my days and look forward to the next steps in my son's life.

Congratulations NAVY Mom !!    Rejoicing with you on your wonderful phone call from your dear son.   He sounds so sweet!!  I understand completely keeping info on his grandma from him while in BC and how special that he can now call her and speak with her.  Praise God for her recovery.     My son's grandma was diagnosed with cancer just before he left for BC last year - now she is able to go to his BESS graduation in Groton this week - the day after she has Chemo.   I praise God for giving her strength and life to be able to go to this special event.    ( Yes, BESS grad is Friday, not Thursday this week afterall - welcome to the NAVY).

Have a fantastic time at PIR next week - Enjoy being there in October.      We loved going there (although January in Chicago was a bit chilly for us).

Yes I did get my call yesterday!!  I happened to be in training at work and during class WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE OUR CELL PHONES ON OUR DESK OR ON.  So before class I went to my instructor and told him that "MY CELL WOULD BE ON AND WHEN I GOT A CALL FROM MY SON I WOULD BE TAKING THE CALL!".  He was very understanding LOL.  When my son called I was so excited and relieved to hear from him.  He lost his voice during Captain's Cup so I had a hard time hearing him, but it just made me so happy to hear from him and he sounded so glad that this part was almost done. My SR was so sweet my mom was in ICU the weekend before he left for BC and they are very close, so he had a hard time leaving.  We were not sure if she would make it, she was VERY sick, he kept saying he didn't think he could leave for BC, but after telling him it was what his grandma would want he agreed to go.  So he cut my call short yesterday so he could call and talk to his grandma.  She is much better after she had surgery the first part of September. I kind of kept most of what she was going through from him so he could focus on getting through BC. Eventually I did explain to him everything that she was going through, but I waited until we knew she would be okay.  My son has always had a very caring heart especially with his family, even his sister though he tends to not let that one show.  She was so excited when he left she got 3 hugs and he told her he loved her!!  LOL

We leave today and it's a good thing I am not at work today I could hardly focus Monday and Tuesday when I was there, I would almost be worthless today.  Can't wait to meet everyone!!

Congrats to all the SR's

My husband just recieved sudden orders to groton....we move first week of next month....I was just wondering if anyone had some information to share in regards to the area...its so hard to just rent an apt in areas we have not yet been to see. Please let me know!.....Surrounding towns or areas nice to live in is my biggest concern.

KathyMmom and Nana Donna:  Thank you both so very much for the kind words. Today is another day and I am fine again.  I don't know what triggered yesterday. My son's most recent picture is always my desktop background on my pc at work and something about that picture just really made my heart hurt.  I know he's happy and doing what he wants; I just never knew that cutting the apron strings would hurt so much.  I support him 100% in whatever he chooses to do in his life and he knows that.  I'm just really glad he doesn't know about days like yesterday because I definitely don't want him worrying needlessly.  Thank you so much for the hugs and support; it meant a lot and helped make a really bad day better!!!!

Wow Val-ACD - that is what my son is hoping for, I definitely think he is a bit cracked in the skull!  lol

ProudNavyFCMom - hugs.  I can only say that  my son asked me specifically to support and understand his choice.  That's the only thing that gets me through the days when I really want to talk to him or hug him - knowing he is doing what he wants to do.  My mom was a Navy wife for 32 years - I honestly don't know how she did it - we would go many months with no letter, phone call, anything.  Every once in awhile, one of the officers would call her and let her know that he was okay.  That was it.  Her blue candle burned day and night until he came home and we would all blow it out together.  But you know what?  My dad LOVED his work.  He was so happy doing the things that he did, and he really felt like he contributed to this world in a great way, which he truly did.  (thank him whenever you get a flu shot!)  The work our loved ones do is a sacrifice, and we make a sacrifice too.  God made Military moms extra tough - He had to.  You are among the elite and the blessed.  Don't forget that.  Big hug to you.

NavyMom(div335) - we will probably see you at the airport on Saturday!  :-)  Did you get your call yet?

Aww Proud I am so sorry you are having such a bad day, just know that he is doing something very important and is in an elite group of sailors that chose this special mission to work on subs.  I am the grandma of the sailor and miss him terribly but I am sure his Mom (my daughter) misses him very very much as it is her only child.  They do speak often and have even set up Skype so they could talk via the computer and actually see each other.  If you don't do that it may be something you want to look into because at least you can see them that way.  My daughter has it specially hard as her hubby is in the Air Force, but he is stationed in Vegas which is an hour plane ride away and gets to visit often.  Luckily after 24 years he will be retiring and will be home for Christmas this year.

Sorry I was not much help but felt so bad for you when I read your post that I had to post some kind words for you  (((((((((((hug))))))))))))))))

Hello N4M friends.  I just sent my son a msg (he's in TCNO) telling him how I was thinking about him today and how much I miss him.  I'm at work and having a really difficult day today for some reason.  I can't stop crying.  Please share with me how you other moms are able to cope with these "bad" days.  I can handle them at home cause I can just give in and get a good cry in but I can't really do that at work (tell that to my tear ducts!)  Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!!
