We found a video on You tube of the sub my son will be on when he gets to Norfolk. I can't imagine living in one of those for months ( or personally even a day). They have to be silent too. What amazing sacrifice these sailors all make for their country. Enjoy the clip of the USS Helena - I'm sure other subs are similar.
Thanks Nana...He was..the moma in me wanted to just drive and see him, but I know it would have been short lived once he found some other people to do something with. He was optimistic in the fact that if he was still there when the new recruits came, he'd be in charge :) too funny!
Kathy - I'm learning this is the norm..hurry up and wait in the Navy...they just get their hopes built up from hearing about what they will be doing and then bam...wait we aren't ready to send you yet.
I just keep positive for his sake and my sanity!
Have a great evening everyone :)
Aw danagagirl - that makes me so sad. We are getting ready to send our son from BC on 10/7 to Groton and BESS on 10/8, but apparently his actual school doesn't start until 10/22 (anticiapated grad 12/16, but seems like quite a few don't make that first date). ugh! I asked him what he might be doing during that down time and he said, 'PT and cleaning stuff.' I am afraid this will be the worst time for him as he won't be working on the stuff he wants to be doing, which may result in homesickness as well. Is that kind of delay normal? Acutally, I know he will be okay, but I might lose my mind trying to figure out where he will be when! lol
Val - so glad he got to visit family. My son was pitiful Friday..when he said all his friends were gone, I told him " I'd come see him (I wish)" and he said please tomorrow..broke my heart..my baby does need me ;) I told him if I didn't have to work and/or was rich..wouldn't even be a question! Can't wait until he is done with his Sub school seems like he has been gone forever. But he has to get there first!
Hi danagagirl,
Thanks for your encouragement!! Yes, his time at Fort Lee was wonderful (spoiled us being close to home), his time in CT has been fantastic (close to grandparents), and then he gets to stop home again after BESS grad. He also made plans to fly to PA to see his other grandparents before coming home and yesterday we found out that grandpa has a tumor and very ill. We are rejoicing that he planned that trip out to see them. We all have so much t be proud of as we see our sailors maturing through this molding process. May we uphold them all in prayer as they continue on in the path laid before them. Blessings and love to all.
Val - I understand how that works. My sister was in the military and we are from Ga..she wanted overseas as her first two picks and west coast as her third, and she got stationed in Kings Bay Ga (and this was 24 years ago). So I know it hasn't changed. I am just keeping positive for him. I know a lot has to do with their rate as well. He was just down because everyone else in his class got orders and left and he is the lone one remaining with no def plans to leave yet. It can make it frustrating for him. On a good note though: he graduated his A school in Ft. Lee and got Honor Graduate and Accelerated Petty Officer :) and his CSS Certificates! So proud :)
