Hello All.   By any chance, did anyone purchase any of the picture frames from the NEX photo lab @ Great Lakes? I would like to know what these look like before I order one.

Tack -  So well said, tears came to my eyes just reading it.  I am not the Mom of the sailor but the Grandma.  I miss him terribly as we are very close.  He has been in Groton since early May and is doing his TCNO right now then on to A school.  So far as I talk with him he says the school is going good.  In fact he is waiting for the more challenging school.  We are hoping that he gets to come home for visit in between TCHNO and A school.  We shall see what the Navy says.  We joke that my grandson was very well trained, we called his Mom a Sargent because you could get away with nothing with her.  I guess it was good prep for his Navy career.

From personal experience with my son, while he was in TCNO the communication almost completely disappeared.  Between the 3 classes before A school, TCNO seemed to be the hardest and most demanding.  If they did not keep ahead of scheduled they were required to go to night study.  After class 3 days a week they have PFA, then they still have their duty.  So I learned to just sit back and wait for the call, if too much time went by I would call or send a text..."Just thinking about You"  I am trying to get into the Navy frame of mind, because when he goes out on a sub for 6 months there wont be much communication.  If you are really concerned and there has not been any communication for a while, you can call the omsbudman (point of contact while they are out on a sub) and they can possibly direct you in the right direction.  I have learned that my son has grown up quite a bit since being in the Navy, and realizes he dont have to answer to mom anymore, but he still has to answer to somebody (Navy) which gives me alot of comfort for now.  I know once a mom always a mom, and our heart breaks when we dont hear from them, believe me I still cry all the time, missing him so much, when I go see him, I have to tear myself away from him, but I know he is doing what he wants and enjoying it.  I have to remember he is still training to defend the country that he loves and truly is giving his all to do the best job to his best ability.  Being a Navy mom is the hardest job that I have ever done.  God Bless All of our Sailors

fluteface, I had a similar experience with my son.  We hadn't heard from him in over a week and I am such a worrier and was thinking something was really wrong.  He was going to Boston for a friends bachelor party on a Saturday, but had duty the next day.  I had iminaged that he didn't make it back by 10PM.  I kept calling his cell phone and emailing him and did not hear anything back.  I finally called directory assistance for the base there and called and left a message on his phone and by email that if I didn't hear from him that evening that he was still alive that I was going to call the base the next morning.  He did email me back that there was no problem that it had been a very busy week.  We just ask that he get in touch with us once a week.  Here it is again another week and no communication from him and of course I called and left messages on his cell phone twice this evening.  I am a mess!! It is nice that we can vent here and other mothers understand.

Rose   regarding leave 2.5 per month that is better than I expected.  Is that from the time they reported to BC or does it start after PIR?  Trying to calculate my grandsons leave in my mind LOL
Comment by Rose7..Norfolk on September 25, 2011 at 9:41pm

ProudNavy......they accumulate 2.5 per month.  I'm 100 percent sure.  I have my sailor in front of me and he confirm.

Momof - So happy that your son gets to come home on leave.  I am sure if he in coming home and then reporting to his boomer that he has finished his schooling.  He will probably be finishing up A school and graduating by Oct 7th.  Enjoy your visit.

Hello Moms,

How does school in Groton work! My son has been there since April 30th as he graduated bootcamp on the 29th. I know he has passed a couple different programs so far. He is going to be a machinist mate on a boomer in Bangor, WA. He is coming home Oct 7th(YEAH!!!!) and has to report to WA sometine at the end of OCT. I am reading the different schooling so I am trying to see what he may have done so far. We don't get a chance to talk that much and do alot of communicating on FB. I really wish I could go to grad as well but not able too! I am hoping he may be with some of your sons, that would be awesome!
