He can get the duty driver from base to pick him up for free. He just needs to call the quarterdeck. Cab is around 100.

Lorie....the best thing to do if you are going to Groton is to rent a car...you need a car for everything because taxis are fairly expensive

Can anyone tell me the most economical way to get from the Providence airport to the base for our sailors, ie: taxi, shuttle, bus?

Anybody going to BESS graduation Aug. 26?  We're staying at the Navy Lodge!

My son just finished sub school, and graduates on Aug 5th. Does anyone know how I can find out his ships name? He is coming home for two weeks, and then have to report back in Groton by 23rd of August. He does want to tell me the name of his ship:) His rate is MM, and he entered basic as an E-3.

Thanks, Lorretta

Thanks everyone,

Still haven't talked to him about the switch.  You explained it right Cheri when you said he had his heart set on it.  I'm sure he will be fine after he gets his head around it. Do they have C school in Sonar??  What is that?? How much longer?

What areas could this training do for him in the civilian world?

Proudma Groton CT sub school:  I will definitely add you to my prayers.  I don't know what I would do if they did that to my son!!!  That's the one thing that keeps me going; knowing that when all of these "schools" are over that I should be able to see him for a visit.  I'm sure that everything will work out for you but I will say a prayer just to be sure!!!  Let us know!

My son is graduating Sub School on Friday the 5th.  We just found out he will be stationed in Hawaii.  I have not seen him since Great Lakes Graduation.  He is supposed to have 21 days of leave.  I am freaking out!  When we talked yesterday they messed up his flight arrangements and have him going to OHare and then straight to Honolulu.  Please pray they get his orders straight so I can see my boy.  I miss him terribly!!

Wow, I didn't realize the Navy could change their job once they got it.  That would really upset my son as well.  Fire Control was his first choice.  He said that at the time he picked it they were the most needed.  I would hate for him to be switched over at this late date.  At this point I don't guess I should be surprised about anything.  To say that my interaction with the Navy so far has been less than desirable is putting it quite mildly and I'm going through it all over again with my second son.  I guess everyone survived it before our kids got into the Navy so that means all of us will survive the disappointments and changes as well now.  Not good news though.

Cheri - I know what you mean fortunately my grandson had a list of 3 sub jobs and Sonar was the top of his list.  He loves computer stuff.
