Angie - Thank you for the confirmation. We are very much looking forward to graduation tomorrow.
Cheri and Rose7: Thank you for the information. Thankfully he scored high on his test and earned his blue card. I figured BESS was pretty much the easiest of the schools they would attend. I'm just happy that the next 2 are self-paced. And yes, I know that some guys are struggling really bad just to pass one test. I feel so bad for them. At the same time, I would definitely want the Navy to hold them to an extremely high standard; after all, they will be the ones keeping each other alive on those subs. I only thought that boot camp was the worse it would get; little did I know that it remains stressful into "A" school and beyond. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Hopefully I'll think of something to say next time he calls if he's upset about something.
Hi Ladies, just stopped by to check in maybe I have a few tips for you my son has been in groton since february 4th, He grad bess top of class on 4/8/11 he has graduated out of att school, techno, and as of monday, July 11th, my son has started A School, Please leave questions and when I log on will try to give you a time frame of your child's next step if I can help
ProudNavy......when my son was in BESS it was the same thing. In BESS they have a total of 3 and 3. I remember my son being upset because forgot to go back and got a 75 but he was always on the 90's. Still they have the mandatory study every night, some of them struggle a little and they want them to help each other. One thing your son need to learn is that in the Navy you have to work as a team, a LOT of patience. My son is the kind of what ever and he just go with the flow, nothing like mom. LOL. He need to be happy that he is passing, I know of some kids that don't pass and they got send back to start. Others after 2 opportunities they got send to surface. There and every where is even if they/you don't agree or like each other, they still help or cover each other. Can you imagine under water what will happen if they don't learn how to help each other and they just look for them self?
Nana.....no everybody have to go to C school. Is depend on what they are going to do. My son finish Sept 9 and he just waiting for orders don't have to go to C school.
Last time I talked to my grandson he got a 97 on his test and was really upset with himself that he miss ONE question! Well I guess it is good to thrive for perfecttion
Definace - my grandson graduated BESS on Friday also - so glad you got to see your son while in Groton
Our son also graduates BESS this Friday, July 15th. I don't know many details about BESS graduation but I've heard it begins at 9:00 AM but you should be there early. Also, I heard that your sailor must meet you at the gate to get you in. Can anyone confirm these details or provide more?
Also, I did learn something valuable when we were able to visit with my son at Groton about a month ago. To take our car on base, we needed driver's license, registration and proof of insurance. Unfortunately, our proof of insurance card had expired and they would not allow our car on base until we had our daughter fax a copy of our updated insurance card from home to our hotel, then deliver the copy from the hotel to the base. Ultimately, we got in and everything was great. Of course, maybe we're the only people that let their insurance cards lapse, but I thought I would pass along the importance of proof of insurance.
