Does anyone have any information about BESS school graduation?  My son is scheduled to graduate this week and I am not sure of the details yet, ie time, gettting on to base, what to expect etc.. Also does anyone know anything about Olde Mystic Village, how far from base, nice place to visit?

Plus what the Navy says one day may not be the same the following.  Things change all the time, it is hard to keep up.  My grandson graduated BESS on Friday 7/15 and still isn't sure when his A School will officially begin

Cheri:  Thanks for the info.  He has 3 weeks left.  He's getting upset because they have to "muster" every night at 9:30 because of this.  My son has had liberty (he's now up to midnight although not overnight yet) since he got to BESS.  He doesn't leave the base much cause he's trying to save money to purchase a vehicle.  I tried to talk to him about it last night.  I thought maybe they did it that way to teach them that the entire team suffers for the greater good.  That's what I've been trying to tell him.  Then I thought maybe they're just trying to see if they can handle frustration and anger because they'll be closed in on subs for months at a time.  I'm just trying to understand the Navy life and I still don't get it!  I do thank you for your response.

I just made a group for "Groton CT sub wives" so if you are here for School or stationed and what to meet other Navy wives here then you should join! I would love to make some new friends and meet other Navy wives!

Good morning everyone.  I've been hit or miss on here since my son went to BESS but I have a question that I hope someone can answer.  At what point (if any) does the Navy judge each individual on their own merit and not make everyone pay for the poor judgment/mistakes of others in their class?  I realize that my SA is not an angel but the class is getting continually "punished" for people not turning their liberty cards in.  My younger son will be visiting him in 2 weeks and I would hate for them not to be able to spend much time together because of this.   Can anyone shed any light on this for me?  Thank you very much and have a nice day.

Subwife.....thanks!!! I love the area as far as people, very quiet.  Is a little town and look like they know each other. Good luck!!!

NDG....take your GPS, you will need it.  If you are planning to stay a few days you want to explore around and I mean far.  Groton is a little town and is like a little park in two hours your done and then....

Subwife - Thanks. That makes sense. Since I am in CA, I REALLY won't know the area. I will bring mine from home. Since we are coming so far, we want to take some time to see some things...if we have enough money to stay for a while.
Glad to hear you are getting settled in.

I think she meant GPS.....but I'm not sure.  I just got to Groton yesterday and got a house today in base housing.  So far I like the area, but haven't gotten around much....just a little exploring yesterday.  The GPS is nice to have though if you don't know the area.

Rose, what is a GP? We are going in October. Will we need one? Is it some type of pass?
