They go through BESS as a class, it is not self-paced. It takes about 8 weeks. ATT and TCNO are self-paced, computer based classes that on average take 4-5 weeks, but obviously can be finished faster if they work at it. There may be a hold in between all of these classes depending on how much room to class up there is. Also, TCNO stands for Tactical Computer Network Operations. :)

BESS graduation is much smaller than PIR.

They are deppers when they are waiting to go in...delayed entry program. That was before MEPS even. Now we call them sailors, once they are out of boot camp.
The BESS graduation is supposed to be very nice. I couldn't make it, as I had flown out from CA for PIR. Am planning on going out for his A school graduation, should be in October. He says he will know a date when he begins A school.
Several of the moms in my PIR did go to the BESS graduation and were very happy that they did. The boys say it's not that big a deal, but moms say it was worth it if you are able to make it.

I noticed someone posted a question about "BESS graduation". they actually graduate from there b4 A school, and if yes, is it another big ceremony like BC graduation?
Comment by Renebo on May 30, 2011 at 4:36pm
oh that's awsome!! I already see changes in A. Even his girlfriend noticed the changes. So, we call them deppers?
Comment by Nancy on May 30, 2011 at 4:35pm
He told his step-dad that he can leave A school as an E 4 if he gets really good grades. Which is quite a bit more money and saves him about two years of time rank wise, or something like that. I guess it depends on how many tests they take.

Yes, at first. I was a little hesitant, but the changes in my son are incredible! He spent Mother's Day in a Retirement Home talking to elderly women. His girlfriend told me about it. I told her that I thought aliens had taken over his body...jokingly of course.
Subs..not so sure that I could spend time in such close quarters, but I know that submariners are a tight group.
The change is that my little boy, only 17 when he became a depper has become a man!

yes! my son did mention if they make the top 10% of their class, they get promoted. He said that's what he'd like to do. unfortunately, A likes his fun as well. Unless BC really changed him, I don't see him holing up in his room for too long. I guess we shall see! Are you glad your son joined?

Sorry...rumored bonus.

Well, when I sady "head off" to A school, that means they move to another building at Groton, and room with kids who are just in their rating. Lol
My son really liked it as he was able to choose one of his roommates
Apparently there are perks for scoring high once in your studies once you are at A school. Getting to posibly choose where you get stationed is a rumoered.
