It does depend a bit. Mine got his I think a few days after Test 2. (Test 2 was on a Monday and I think the whole class or at least most of them got their Blue card either on Wednesday or Thursday if I remember correctly.) Yellow card is basically up to the Sailor because they have to finish quals to get it. It's not hard though and mine had his in about 2 weeks I think. But Blue card I'm pretty sure they at least have to pass Test 2 and basically not be in trouble, show up when they are supposed to, etc.

My son has been there about a month, and is on his yellow card, I think it all depends on the Sailor, their behavior, and their instructor.  It all depends on if they stay out of trouble and are on time to muster, curfew, class.  My son is just now starting his 2nd week of school.  They have to take a few random classes before BESS, like personal finance, drug/alcohol, then about a week of briefings.

Mine got his yellow card by the 3 weekend after arriving at Groton and he thinks he gets his blue one not this weekend but the following after his 2nd test

Your sailor has to do all his quals. First they get the white card. Curfew is at 10pm and have to be in full uniform out side of base. Oh and must stay within 25 miled of base. Yellow card they get midnight curfew get to wear civilian clothing and can go within 100 miles from base. Still have to be back at night. Once they get their blue card they get full liberty. I think that might take up to 7 weeks

Hi everyone,
BESS graduation today. Beautiful. A very friendly atmosphere. We were able to go aboard the nuclear sub Miami. What an experience. Everything is so compact. i can't imagine my son getting into those racks. Everyone is so friendly. We met Master Chief of the Miami. The chief of the boat gave the grandkids and my husband a commemorative coin from the boat. So good to see my son. He is well. Home tomorrow.
