amiles, we always stayed in Portsmouth area when visiting our sailor, since that was closer to where he rented while in Norfolk base.  You need to know what side of the tunnels you want to stay by.  Tons of fun and great eating there.

I am 30 miles northeast of St. Louis. My sailor is in Norfolk. My son will be getting out in april 2015, I miss him so much!

We're north of there a little ways. I work in Effingham. We have friends in Marion and meet in Mt. Vernon quite often. We go to Salem quite a bit too.

Brittanysmom--our sailor was born in Mt. Vernon!  We get there every few months to check in on sis-in-law in nursing home.

It looks like Wednesday will be your "stalk the mail carrier" day.

My son's PIR is tomorrow, he called on Tuesday and mentioned he will have to report at 12 noon to be driven across the street to another building where he will be there from 1-4 hours then later to join us for more celebrations.  But he will be there at GL for 6 days before going to Ft. Lee, VA.

Stepup 242,  welcome.  Be sure and also join the Chicago group.  You've got some of the most amazing Sisters up your way!

I"m down in Troy, IL, close to St. Louis

Brittanysmom, welcome!  I am also from Southern Illinois and my son has been in the Navy for about 2 1/2 years and he loves it so far - we will see what he thinks after he deploys next month!!  So proud of your daughter and all young men and women who make the choice to join.  Be sure and sent lots of letter and cards to your daughter, she will need all the love and support she can get in the next few weeks - PIR is something you will never forget!
