Moms/Dads/Families with Nukes in Ballston Spa, NY

Wanted to start a group for moms, dads, and other family members that have Nukes currently attending Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY.

Thought I would start a group for the families of sailors stationed in NY for Prototype. It will be nice to chat about what is going on with our sailors whether it is good or bad so that we can support each other. I have connected with many people on this site but it is always nice to meet others that are going through the same things together. Also if you have had a sailor in NY for an extended amount of time then you can help the new ones just coming in on what to expect.

These are the couches he needs to give away!

Hope everyone had a nice Easter! We had the most beautiful day today - blue skies, warm temps, & no wind - a perfect day!

My son will also be finishing up mid-May & has 2 couches & a desk for anyone who wants them. One couch is all black & the other is a lovely(?) floral!! The desk is not in the greatest shape, but I guess it'll hold stuff. He might have some little stuff too(cooking pot & sheet pan...). They can ask about that.

PM me for his contact info.

Ktrsb -  oh, that is scheduled for next year with the GW getting to Norfolk in Sept. 2015.

Ktrsb - it is the GW CVN-73.  Yes, Joe said that & another Navy mom on a local(to me) FB site said it is going to be a "hull swap" - meaning all but a few key sailors will stay where they are stationed & not with their ship.  Those few key sailors will stay with their original ship & the rest switch ships.  Don't know where Nukes sit in that.  So he may - or may not be staying there!??

Patttotwhiche orge Washington is in Japan. It needs major maintenance, and will come either this year or next to Norfolk. The Roosevelt, which is in Norfolk right now, will go to San Diego to replace the Reagan wwill go to Japan to replace the Washington.

If anyone has a sailor heading up to ballston spa and needs any furniture or household items, please message me and I'll forward my son's email address to you.  He just got his orders and will be leaving in less than 2 weeks.  He has quite a bit of furniture and other household items that he has no use for.  They were also renting a nice little 3 bedroom duplex that will be vacant as of May 15.  He has a queen size bed frame, mattress and box spring that was purchased last May too.

NancyJo - Yes, he was a sub vol!  I don't think he was the only one - 2 of his classmates in ELT will be headed there also.  I have read on here where it does happen - needs of the Navy!  He was OK with it when he told us - said living conditions will be better on a carrier (??).  He did ask for Japan.  On everything I've read so far, everyone really likes it there.  We wanted him to see the world - and he will!!... at least a whole different world than we know here in the Midwest!  It'll be a great experience for him, for sure!  In that respect, I'm thrilled.....just hoping China or N. Korea don't do anything stupid that would put all the ships & sailors in danger!

So, PattiP, he was a sub vol and still got assigned a carrier? I hope he isn't bummed. Did he want Japan?

How exciting to finally have a firm idea of the future, or at least the next few years. Such a relief. Actually, my niece went as a college student and spent a semester in Japan, then returned as a teacher for a whole year. I don't think it was 2 yrs but time flies. She LOVES Japan. I hope your son sees a lot of the sights. Congrats!

OK, so ELT is just about done & we found out their ships!  My son will be on the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in Yokosuka Japan!.. Lady I work with son has been based there ( he just got out of Navy after 10 years), said it is like a suburb of Tokyo.

He was a sub vol since boot camp, so I guess you never know for certain where they'll be till they get their ship assignment!
