Sorry to come late to the party, but I saw the post regarding the passport. You might have learned already from other posts but they use special military issued passports when they travel for deployment/detachments on military transports. When they use commercial transport they use their personal passports. Also, it's recommended the less advertisement that they're military the safer they are, i.e. civilian clothes, no uniforms off base unless required.
Hi Melissa a.k.a Daniel's Mom, My son arrived in GL on 9/25 with PIR 11/21/14. He is Ship 12 Div 016. He's from the Stuart area, and Central Florida area.
good morning Florida moms-I am in search of a Realtor in Central Florida (Leesburg/Tavares area) if you are one or can refer me to one I would appreciate it...you can leave a notice on my page or send a friend request...thank you so much...
Melissa aka: Daniel's Mom; my step son left for BC on 9/24 from the Miami area. He'e PIR will be 11/21.
eljac913, I will ask my son if he knows of any apartments in the area. He is also stationed in Jax. Has he checked into base housing? My son was going to do off base housing but found it was cheaper to do on base.
Navymom2013 your son can travel on orders with his military ID. However if he is going out of country I recommend he at least sends for it before he leaves. You can get the forms online and he can take them filled out to the post office and they will take his pic and send off for it. He will need a original of his birth certificate. I filed out my son's for him and sent it to him at A school. He then did the rest. He may not know some of the info like where you and his dad were born. He can get it expedited if leaving soon it just costs more money. Some post offices take appointments only so I would check it out. Hope this helps. If your sailor wants to travel with friends he will need one.
My son's sub made my son get a passport because it it too dangerous to show military id in some countries. He had to pay an expedite fee to get it in time for the boat leaving.
How does a sailor go about getting a Passport for the 1st time? Can it be done on base? How long is it taking to receive it? Is it better to have the address listed as mine so I can mail it to him due to him on the move with the Navy? Thanks!!!
