CO-Twin, my son took off from GL Monday afternoon, he had graduated bootcamp on June 7 but was on hold for 2 weeks. He still by himself at GC no room mate yet. As of now he's cleaning his room and putting everything together. He did meet up with his buddies from boot camp that just started A school yesterday. I'm driving to GC on the July 4th weekend, he asked if we can bring his bike :)

Also, COTwin, A school and Power School are both in GC, but Proto could be GC or Ballston Spa, NY, which you will know here as BS.  They will find out where they go late in Power School

That is when they are expected to get their own housing?  How far in is that?  When he is done with A school and starts the next phase?  Is that power school? trying to learn all new stuff.

I live in Colorado so driving would be a ways.  I have twins, both in the navy, his twin is deployed now.  He is an IT on a Destroyer.  I am a chef so both boys were a little spoiled where food goes, both like to cook also.  The IT went to Pensacola for A school and got permission to BBQ a lot.  I guess what might wear thin is the same menu all the time for two years or more.  Smiley

He is allowed to drive his vehicle back to Goose Creek as long as he has been there long enough to have driving privileges.  That usually happens about 4 to 6 weeks if I remember right so he should be good for Christmas.  Depending on how far away you live you may want to reconsider though as his drive time will count as leave and he will need allow for extra time encase of a breakdown. Returning late will not be acceptable. We drove my son's pickup out to him and spent Thanksgiving with him so he wouldn't have to worry about it over his Christmas leave.

Boy wonders Mom  My son got a room mate who has been there I think a couple of months.  He said the food is awesome much better than GL.  I might have met your son at the airport though.  We met several nukes there as we waited for them to fly out.

Does anyone know if they get to come home for Christmas?  And if they do can he drive his own car back?

Lance's mom I do hope your son gets liberty for the 4th of July.   It could happen.  I hope what I said earlier did not sound  harsh, but I  just mean that all students from boot camp arrive at A school on an equal footing.  The deck is reshuffled and it is a new deal for everybody.   If your son did get a letter from his RTC though -- I would just keep that one for the scrapbook not hand it in at Goose Creek.

I do remember my son got a special liberty chit during A school and was able to come home (to New Hampshire) it might have been 4th of July, because we visited Goose Creek around Memorial Day and he graduated A school in August, and in between he came home for a weekend.  It all depends on how well they are doing in school at the time.   There are some unadvertised perks if you are at the top of the class at A school and seen as a team player.  By the way my son's special job assignment during boot camp was swabbing the toilets as part of the 'head crew'.

CO- TwinSailorsMom wondering if our sailors are room mates, my son got to GC yesterday and had a room by himself. My son was walking me thru his room, telling me all the space they get now, and he also loves the food. We are happy if they are happy!

J's mom thank you so much for the info, I'm sure my son will learn the path to Best Buy really quick, lol. Glad to know he won't have enough time to get bored, hoping he gets a room mate soon

My son has landed at GC, today he said he really likes his room mate, the room is very nice, he loves the food, there are lots of options of things to do, he plans to work out with his room mate. There was a female recruit with him at GL with the same last name. They will be in the same class, so they are playing at being brother and sister, too funny.
