While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son reports to his boat today. A "boomer".

Apparently the boat has been out on patrol for some time now, and will remain out on patrol for some time to come.

Is it likely he will be taken out to join the boat on patrol ?

Since it will be his crew that will be returning with the boat, is it likely he will go out with the other crew when they take it out next ?

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on April 24, 2013 at 10:43am: Hi all - we made it home from A school grad. Had a wonderful time visiting with our sailor and seeing Charleston! We made it to the Magnolia Plantation - had a great time there. Also did Patriot's Point - it was so exciting to see our son and his buddy explaining all that they had learned in A school. Ate lots of good food too! Those hush puppy things are amazing! We don't have those here in California - Yummy!

The graduation ceremony was nice - much more laid back than BC. Took lots of pics (with his buddies, his SLPO, Chiefs and Commander). We got to go into the Rickover building and see the museum and even got to go over to where their rooms are (hubby got to actually go into his room but GF and I had to wait outside). And let me tell you - the rooms are SMALL! Our college boys dorm room is bigger than theirs :) Good thing they pretty much only sleep in their rooms.

I got to meet Mommamac and Pietschie too! Hopefully as time goes on I will meet some of you other moms (and dads!).

Sailor son is now on some well deserved R&R in Florida with some of his friends.....we are waiting to hear the exact date that Power School starts - heard it might be 6/24.

Oh and sunshine - I send my son "Tiger Milk" bars (peanut butter and honey crunch). I order them from Amazon and ship directly to him - he can grab a couple of those to eat in the morning before class. He's not a coffee drinker so he will drink a Monster instead - I told him to be careful with those - I think caffeine pills would actually be better than a Monster :/

All in all it was a great 5 days - can't wait to go back in December!

Sounds like they can make their rooms pretty homie but must be kept neat and clean

Comment by melindy on April 24, 2013 at 9:10am: I brought my daughter's laptop and phone to her. The night before she took back to base her civilian undies,etc. Once there they had to go out and buy cleaning supplies, toilet paper, towels and washcloth, etc. The Navy expected them to use the issued towel and washcloth but the girls thought they were not absorbent and yuck. They were issued linens for the bed but again they weren't soft, so my daughter and roommate bought sheets. They plan to go back for a pillow as the issued one is flat.

Comment by ttrbikergirl on April 23, 2013 at 11:04pm: i brought my sailor white boxers and he said mom thank you i forgot to ask you to get me white ones and figured i would have to try and find some i also brought him ones that were blueish black and they were soft almost like tshirts he loved those also what was appreciated was his jewelry his watch, class ring and necklace from his grandpa. he was at airport at 330am and we met him when he got there and with our passes we hung out in a quiet terminal of the airport for the morning and stayed with him all day till he flew out he later told us that he loved the extra time with us.

I did not think they were allowed to wear civilian clothes immediately upon arriving at Nuke school, but I will bring him some if he wants them. I'm just not sure what he can bring and what I need to ship.
