OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

LOL My sailor in ELT training was talking to an instructor who said "You from NE? What town?" When he replied "Omaha" he got a sneer. Wrong town. Too funny! But the IA/NE jokes will never end. Anyway, I would never hold being from IA against another Nuke Mom! ;^)

Comment by cathy on June 15, 2012 at 9:58am: For all the interested parties, here is the carrot bread recipe. It may be doubled so you can make 2 at the same time.

2 eggs

1 cup sugar

3/4 cups of oil

1 1/2 cups of flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp.baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

1 cup grated carrots (I use a little more)

Cream together sugar, oil, and egg.

Combine dry ingredients. Add slowly to sugar mixture.

Mix in carrots.

Bake in greased loaf pan for 55 minutes at 350 degrees.

This recipe freezes well.

Comment by cathy on June 14, 2012 at 10:19pm: It seems my son is only interested in disposable items. obviously, he still does not do dishes. Candy and other treats he can get at any time. However, baked goods are begged for. The cookies get passed around and are greatly appreciated by all. The biggest hit was carrot bread. He seems to appreciate having something to eat in the morning. This enables him to skip going to breakfast and gives him a bit more time in the morning. He keeps juice and fruit in the frig and that's all he needs. He has begged for more.

He's going to have a big green gear bag and a garment bag that will be checked for the flight plus the backpack that he'll take on the plane. He'll have to carry all three on the other end because they aren't supposed to wear the backpack with their dress whites. My daughter took her laptop, her cell phone and a book but there wasn't much free room in the backpack.

Comment by momofanuke on June 14, 2012 at 8:06pm: NikiH...I took my son's phone/charger, laptop bag, contacts and some boxers...I took them to the airport and he stuffed the clothes in one of his bags and then he put the other stuff in his laptop bag and that was one of his carry-ons. Don't give him other civilian clothes yet, he can't wear them for 4 weeks (but he can wear the boxers after BC) After my son got to Goose Creek and got his address I sent him some civies and some other stuff that he wanted, the civies acted as packing material for the stuff and he will have them as soon as he is allowed to wear them again. niki-----if you are meeting your son at the airport before he flies out to A school, you can give him his things then. they dont need alot of clothes because they usually have to stay in uniform for a week or two. he will receive a black backpack that he can put his laptop in.

i send my son food and plastic wear once a month. usually food items he cant get there that he likes.

I am wondering if I should bring him anything when we go to Chicago? iPod, phone, lap top, clothes? Can he take this with him from boot camp to A school? or should I wait and mail it all off to Charolette later?
