William, I wasn't asking in regards to my son's situation.  Never been diagnosed with ADD.  I had heard that it could exclude someone from the nuke program.  I just knew that part of clearance was allowing their medical records to be unsealed and I wonder if that continues after they have enlisted.

Thanks for the information MN mom we are going there in two months I will make sure to bring insect repellent. By then the pollen should be gone I hope.

Elizabeth yes there are medical confidentially laws but as part of their enlistment contract nukes give permission for their medical records to be searched. I don't know anything about ADD or if it would affect anything about a clearance so I cannot help you there. Seems to me if he is fit for duty now some childhood illness that he might not know about what he had would not matter.

Dor- Aww dang!! I remember in BC i told all my professors that if I get a phone call in the middle of class from now to the end of the quarter, that I have to take it. One professor tried to give me a snarky remark, like yeah right sort of thing, and I told him that my boyfriend was in boot camp for 9 weeks and I cant talk to him. That shut him up REAL quick! Sometimes I seriously want a shirt that says "Surviving [x hurdle, be it nuke school, deployment, etc]. Don't mess with me". It would explain everything! lol

Well Ladies, I finally caught up with you.  We returned home from GC late Tues eve.  Yes the pollen from (we were told) palm trees covered the cars with a yellowish dust.  Imagine what a person breaths in.  My sailor also had some OTC allergy medication and lots of sneezing.   It was great to have him for most of the weekend.  He did go back to base twice for several hours of study for a Mon. exam.    BUGS...Yes.... I thought they were little 'no see em" gnats.  They sure packed a punch in their bite.  It seemed more late afternoon when we were bothered by the bites, and not at the visit to Folly Beach in the mid day.  He also had given us the info that A school grad was 4/22 and would not be home for leave till 5/22.  BUT...a text from him while at the airport for out trip home informed me his leave was changed to 4/22 so Lisa he will be with your son, graduating.  I would probably be interested in general pictures of the ceremony if you are taking some.  He is class 1116.  I could have spent another week in Charleston, exploring the city and shops.  Very beautiful place, nice people.

Wait, that was Connie's advice...thanks, Connie.  I should go to sleep, too.

Wow...Sherri...where were you this morning when my daughter came home with an severe ear ache? She thought her ear drum was going to burst.  It happened once when she was younger.  She's 26 now and still has ear problems.  Had to drive 40 minutes because our local Kaiser had no appointments.  Her ear was very bad and they prescribed antibiotics and pain killers and a steroid nose spray.  I'll tell her about that when she wakes up.  She's sleeping.

Sherri, my son starts Power School on 4/28, too. RE: ears hurting, I have a never-fail trick for an earache, learned from an airline attendant ... wring out a washcloth (or paper towels if that's all you have) in very hot water (microwave the water if tap isn't hot enough). Stuff it into a paper or plastic cup, or a small drinking glass, and press against your ear. Relief right away, ahhhh. Repeat as needed.

I just r?ad that and it's confusing.  What I meant to ask was....If they have federal confidentiality laws, is it true that they can deny someone clearance that has something diagnosed in their history such as ADD?  How do they find it out if it is in their medical history?
Comment by elizabeth77(USS SAN FRANCISCO) on March 26, 2011 at 11:25pm
Sherri and Mark, I was just talking about the insurance coverage.  Mark if that is true that they can not give someone clearance that has something diagnosed in their history such as ADD?
