Michimom and Mary(dereksmom) – my son said he would be starting PS on March 3 also!  I hope it works out and we’ll all be in it together.  (We can compare notes.)  My son graduated 12/17 and is currently on T-Track and had the watch shift 1800 – 0600.  One of the first days he took a deck of cards with him to pass the time, but LEFT them somewhere and they were found!  Said someone was really upset about it, but no repercussions that he knows of.  He said that they had to deal with the guys who were either late or no-shows and figured the cards were less important.  Now he’s on the 0530 – 1330 shift and he’s much happier about that – cleaning crew this time!  I am going to see him late Feb before PS starts.

Congrats, javajo!  I'm jealous--we won't make it to my son's next week.  Enjoy and be sure to report to us!

I was so sorry to read about the young sailor that lost her life.  I can't even begin to imagine how the parent are feeling at this point.  I definitely will have them in my prayers.

Today I'm on my way to GC.  Tomorrow is my son's A school grad and I can't wait to see him walk across that stage!  Woo hoo!

We found out too late that during phase 1, they can get permission to stay off base overnight on a weekend when parents are in town and they are staying with them.

Sad to hear about the sailor but good to hear that the missing roommate is back.

Kathy- their watch schedule will vary but while in school, they shouldn't have watch more than 1-3 times a month (depending on how many people are in the class to divy up all the watches needed). During t-track or grad hold, either they'll clean or do watch everyday. Also, during A-school they'll need to get certified on watches for t-track so they'll have more for a couple months while they get checked off at various stations, usually on weekends though.

Very sad to hear about the young sailor who lost her life.  I, too, had not really worried too much about my son being on a carriier, but I have to say that I will worry about it more now. I suppose anything could happen.  He is an ET, too, and  I guess he will also be deep inside and not be on deck.  My prayers go out to the family and friends of the young salior.

I do have some news my son's missing roommate.  He is back and from what my son said, his roommate needed some medical help with stress.  I think he is ok.  My son had mentioned that his roommate was worried about not making it through, so I hope he is feeling better now.  I don't know any more than that. My son just started classes yesterday and had his first watch tonight.  Classes seemed to be ok at least for now.  I got a quick text and he is pretty exhausted from watch.  How often do they have watch every week?

Btw I have just talked to my son and he had heard nothing of it, also.

Connie Foaling, I'm with you.  Every time I hear that there are holds I think, yeah that's longer he will be on dry land and in the states safe on a base.
