You have a good outlook, Sherri.  If something similar were to happen to my son those are the thoughts I would want to convey.

hey all,

so I have a little news...Michael did go in front of board today, was in there about 3 hours.  He did not pass, which means he will not be a nuke anymore.

we don't know where he will go or what his new classification will be..he goes back tomorrow to find out all that.

While he is a little depressed, I think he's more sad about leaving all the guys then actually leaving the Nuke program.  I also think he thought we'd be upset with him.  So we've made sure he knows we are still proud of him..that he made it much further than alot of people and that he should not be upset.

I'll let you all know tomorrow what/where/when he'll be.

Thanks for your concern and support through this, I have truly appreciated all your input!

Connie Foaling Lady,  When I re-did my kitchen I went with Corian over the granite and the quartz.  I have Quartz in a bathroom and find that is does scratch, with the Corian, I have in 2 other baths, you can lightly refinish the scrach away.  My kitchen still looks great after 6 years.

Elizabeth 77,  am trying to get on more often, but will keep updates on the wedding.  I just picked up my dress, and now can't wait for the 1st fitting. It is totally different that what I ever expected.  All major things are done, now working on the small stuff.  Last major item to get is the invitations.

Mrs. Andy.  Congrats,  I wanted to get married in December but could not take a chance that my sailor would be around.  I am hoping we have a beautiful sunny fall day on November 12th.

Dor- That helps more than you know! Thank you thank you thank you!

Maryquitecontrary-I'm a nursing student too! :) unfortunately it's not the accelerated track. The end is not very close in sight for me. 3 years left.

@ConnieFL - Quartz is relatively scratch-resistant, as is Corian.  Nothing is going to be scratch-proof, but quartz would be harder to repair than Corian, so that may be a consideration.  Otherwise, can you put a rubberized mat down until the feed tubs to protect your new counters?

My house mate and I work for a company that installs commercial kitchens and Corian is used a lot on the serving counters, etc.  It's durable and there are repair kits available in the event of damage.

Connie Foaling lady you are cracking me up!  I have been feeding and cleaning my science room at my preschool since the science teacher is on vacation.  I have been cleaning and feeding for one bunny, two chinchillas, three snakes, four turtles, one gigantic frog, a guinea pig, fish, and a gecho.  THere are five cages and nine tanks.  I am going nuts this summer with my job.  I am trying to save money on staffing but I think I am putting myself at risk.  I dream of animals at night.  Thank God I only have a dog at home and right now he is lame!!!

I redid our countertops a few years ago and went with Corian -- I love it.  The only thing I would do differently is I would have done Corian on the main countertop with the set-in sink like it is, but would have put granite on the island. I was worried about putting the 2 types together, but now I wish I had.

I think they are all about the same price.  have you looked into the granite transformation countertops?  they put it over your existing countertops -- I didn't know about them when I did mine.

Not a Navy inquiry here, but need your input, gang ... redoing my kitchen on the cheap and the splurge is the countertops (keeping the floor, cabinets, some appliances). I'm thinking quartz because no maintenance. Dark color like maybe chocolate speckled brown-ish. Any downside to quartz? Any pitfalls in ordering or installation? I need scratch-proof counters because it's a farm and I mix up bran mashes in feed tubs, etc in the kitchen and also because the cats have to leap from the floor to the counter to the top of the fridge to eat in peace away from the greedy dog (I know, this is where half of you gasp in horror and the other half nod knowingly!!).

Sounds cozy, Emily. I think you need to pack a few more activities in, you're not nearly busy enough. ;) Have fun!
