Attention brand new and incoming Nuke moms:  I received a packet in the mail today from the INDOC center at GC (my son classed up today--even if they will not start actual classes until after the New Year.) It contained all kinds of helpful and useful information, including a letter from the Ombudsmen, a detailed description of the rates and associated courses of academic (and other) study, an overview of the scheduled length of each program, associated leave and travel days at the end of each program, housing arrangements, etc. SO...know this will be coming to you at some point when your sailor classes up--or finishes INDOC. My sailor arrived November 9 and classed up today, so it's been a month. I had no idea this information would be mailed to us and I am so grateful to have it! As has been said many times, nothing is 100% certain or guaranteed. But this set of guidelines and other useful information about the area/naval services etc. was a true blessing!

Thank you to all who responded about the wedding worries--although I never had any misconception he would be able to leave base for more than 48 hours over the wedding weekend. October is also hurricane season, and we all know what that means.

I am not sure the cardboard cutout idea would be received with the same merriment by the bride's family, so perhaps the choice of a different best man for this solemn event.

I added this to the New Members info up above but I want to put it here too.  This was posted on one of the FB pages.

Congrats Chipmunk on the new grandbaby!  My nephew and his wife had a baby boy on Saturday - 1st great grand baby in the family.  His poor wife was in labor for 1 1/2 days and then they did a c-section.  But everyone is doing great! Tiny little guy 6.5 lbs.

NewJaxMom - the official form letter should arrive in about 9-14 business days.  Once you get that you'll know your sons PIR and you can join the group for that.  In the meantime keep your phone handy and remember, no news is good news!

StarryNights - be sure to join the boot camp group - I left the link in the welcome message on your page.  Also take a look at the July DEP group.  You'll find info on what your son needs to do before leaving.  Here's the link:

Hi all - Happy Monday!

See the source image

Looks like lots of chatter going on here over the weekend. Hopefully you got your questions answered, if not, please ask again and we'll try to help!

NonnaB - I do remember your life-sized cutout!  Good times lol!

ShipOfDoodles - please don't be too set on having your Sailor there for the wedding.  The Navy has a way of upsetting plans.  And then if by chance it can work out that he will be there you will be pleasantly surprised - remember Semper Gumby!

Kitagrl - You are welcome!!
