Grandma had an engagement party for the kids while they were here - here's a picture from that:

Great pics B'sNukeMom and NancyJo! Love all the smiles :)

MTBCHCK, my husband enjoyed your post. He's former Navy and Army!

Enjoy the baby shower, Chipmunk!

My Nuke is between A and Power School so he's not affected too much by Dorian. Do they usually get called to help the clean up efforts off base after hurricanes? We lived in Charleston for 3 years in the 90's. I worked at MUSC and the flooding downtown was incredible even without a hurricane offshore. My husband (boyfriend at the time) was in the Navy while we were there and it was always worrisome when they moved his sub out to sea ahead of a storm. Hoping the best for all of your sailors and family!

JayDee, too late for my sailor but a good thought!

B'sNuke, I passed that tidbit about keeping fridge closed on to my son. We have no idea how long they will be without power. Fingers crossed.

I did see a really interesting tip on hurricane preparedness which suggested using your washing machine as a cooler by filling it with ice and beverages/food.  It would theoretically drain automatically as ice melted but keep things cold.  Not helpful if the power is out already but probably worth trying.

NancyJo - remind them not to open their fridge or freezer!  Hopefully they won't be without power for too long :(  Praying for safety for everyone!

Son txted they are without power just when they had started "Shrek." Well that's too bad. They will just have to learn the old art of conversation. It's daytime so not real dark and they are far enough inland that they aren't too worried about flooding. Charleston is another story. Prayers for the folks who are still there.

Here's a news story I just saw on Dorian and SC - downtown area is experiencing flooding:

Wow, the situation in Charleston is getting worse. Can't believe the damage they're already experiencing in Folly Beach.

Keeping all those in the path of the hurricane in prayers!

B'sNukeMom, that's great!  Navy Moms to the rescue!

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on September 5, 2019 at 11:12am

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

NancyJo - thanks for posting the picture (you beat me to it lol!).  I had such a great time in NE.  Got to have lunch with NancyJo one day, lunch with Wink5 another day and then on Saturday we all tailgated together and son & I got to go to the football game (thanks NancyJo for the ticket connection!) - what an awesome experience that was.  College football is HUGE there and we definitely enjoyed being a part of it. My son is lucky that he has not one but 2 Navy moms (and a Navy dad) in the area to help him out if need be ;-D  Gotta love Navy moms!!!

Story to share about how helpful Navy moms can be.  About our 4th night there we headed to Walmart to get son a mountain bike.  Well we head out to his car (it's a Suzuki Vitara - old) and we try to fit the bike in - no way it's not going.  Seats down, everything out, still won't fit.  And unfortunately this bike doesn't have the quick release wheels.  So it's getting dark and we're standing in the parking lot trying to figure out our options.  Son says he can ride it back to his apartment.  Well if it wasn't getting dark I may have gone along with that idea.  So quick thinking I text Wink5 (now we hadn't officially met yet - our lunch was planned for the next day) and say "hey, little problem, stuck in Walmart with a bike that won't fit in the car, do you by chance have a truck?"  Well of course she did!  It's Nebraska after all :-D  So she and her hubby showed up in their big red truck and saved the day!  I told my son (again!) it pays to have Navy Mom friends everywhere!!!  I can't say thank you enough to NancyJo and Wink5 (and her husband) for their hospitality while in NE.....Navy Moms (and Dads) Rock!
