Oh, Leslie. I could't live without my Sesto Meucci for everyday wear, Ecco for golf and Jimmy Choo for those special occasions. My favorite, of course, is the $ 9.99 pair of slippers from Target.

Leslie, wishing all the best for your son. Let us know how the orders work out, I'm sure that those of us with LO's headed to Pensacola are curious about what is going on. I'll be following you on the Aviator group. Don't worry, it will all work out.
For those of you wondering about antibiotics, they do prescribe them. My son has been getting them for several days for pneumonia. He said his lungs feel like they are full of peanut butter. Luckily he doesn't have to do much yelling now. I hope everyone gets well soon.
Anyway, congratulations to everyone with 01!

Leslie- I'll be praying it all works out okay! The same thing happened with Tim's orders- they were in limbo for awhile and we didn't get anything definite until Tuesday or Wednesday of Week 12. He and like six other SWO's were all in the same boat. I was a nervous wreck until we got them, and then was upset because he didn't get OHARP like the class officers had said they might. It was super last minute notice to have to try to find a place to live in Virginia! And one of the guys was reporting to Japan! But, it all worked out okay, we got him there and found him a place to live before I had to head back to the hospital for school. Whatever happens, Brian will make it work!

Marajade- they expect you to leave Newport that day. It'll say on his official orders where he is expected to be in between Intel School and OCS- but be very careful. There's only a certain number of travel days and even though it may say to check in on a certain day for duty, you will lose leave if you don't check in according to travel days. So, Tim lost a day of leave because your travel days between Newport and Norfolk would be Friday and Saturday, so he should have checked in Sunday. We got to Norfolk on Sunday but his orders didn't say to check in until Monday, so he waited to check in until then. Make sure you know your travel allotments if you don't want to be docked leave! He's leaving SWOS on Friday and is expected to check in at Norfolk on Saturday.
SWO's are the only ones who have to check in on graduation day, since they are the only ones whose school is in Newport :)

It is really hard to say... free time for candi-o's depends on the DI, and your LO's indvidiual assignment. Some classes get loads of liberty, some do not, and again, it depends on their assignment. My poor fiance was on indoc when all of your classes were coming through week after week- prior to me coming, he got off the base once as a candi-o and I honestly barely heard from him when he was a candi-o... I would get texts here and there and then a 3 or 4 minute phone call at night. But, some people are on different staffs and have more time. They do not get their liberty plans until that Friday, so it is impossible to plan ahead. By week 11, they have pretty much handed over the regiment to the junior class, and the CO's work together to allow those who have visitors time off. Now, the problem is, if you come every week, they are not going to do that for your CO because it's not fair that everyone else is working during liberty and he's not. I know my fiance worked extra watches a lot (probably one every two days or so) and sat in the hospital with indocs a few times overnight in order to be able to take that weekend mostly off to be with me. I know there were times during that week when my fiance would be free but marsbars' husband was busy with liason duty or van driving. I also know a girl who went up every weekend when they were candi-o's and saw her guy less than she would've just at chapel because she was there so much. Whatever your LO thinks is best is probably the best bet, since he'll know his DI best, but be warned that the regiment cannot be left unattended during liberty so some guys have to stay behind and if you come every weekend they can't rearrange the schedule every weekend. I liked staying there for an extended length of time once because it made him able to ask for extra time off during that time when they knew they'd be less busy, and I could see him when he was doing things like running errands and going to the uniform shop during the week. But, that's just my take on it!
27-09 had a lot lot less liberty during their first two weekends as candi-o's than normal classes- weekend 11 was labor day and their DI was gone for the weekend, and they were an extraordinary class- never got into much trouble, never put back into poopie suits or sent to the suya, never had more than a couple fail inspections the first time around and didn't have anyone roll after like week four or five, etc. So, they as a class had earned that extra liberty!

As funny as the comment about the DI's being big teddy bears... it can be true. They were all super polite and nice to me when I was there whenever I interacted with them- one moved his entire class off the road so that Marsbars and I could drive past! And our guy's DI was sooo nice- they really do care and do the things they do for a reason!
sailordawgmom- I went up the Friday of Week 11 and was SO glad I did- we had a long weekend due to labor day and my fiance spent Friday evening with me, then from Saturday afternoon (and I had lunch with him) until monday evening he was pretty much all mine except for one or two grad practices (yes, even overnight!). Then, during that week, I saw him during the day every day (and he was on indoc staff so he was BUSY most of the time) and then in evenings after sweepers, we went for runs with Marbars and her husband and a few other people- starting wednesday night they had overnight liberty. I am SO glad i was able to go for that week I saw him so much!
Marajade- the people in poopie suits could have been H class members that are not med down and are still indoc candidates- they have to stay in the ocs mindset to get ready to go back!

You miss a ton when you're gone for a weekend :) I spent the weekend in providence and newport with my fiance who is at swos- we spied on OCS from a distance, but didn't really go over there. I really can't afford to get sick for school so Tim didn't want me getting too close! He's very protective!
CONGRATS to 01, and safe travels to all their families- graduation is the best experience in the world :) They do not do the grad run if it is too cold or if it is rainy. The grad run route we were scheduled to run was just over a mile, marsbars and I did it with our guys late one night after sweepers- we went faster than the pace and it wasn't bad at all.
Tim said that he saw 07 in their digis and tennis shoes on Friday during an evolution- so I'm not sure if they're still indocs or not. They were not scheduled to be on the 3 week Indoc program. There are definitely some DI's who do not allow Sunday Phone Calls- Tim's original class did not get phone privileges until week 4, also no mail or email. Luckily, he was only with them for a week and I heard from him about two weeks later via a letter. So, 07 families- if you are not hearing anything, that is good news! I know it's hard (believe me, I was a wreck when I didn't hear anything for over two weeks) but no news really is good news. When I finally heard from him it was to tell me he was injured- I started hoping I wouldn't get emails or phone calls during the week cause I knew it was something out of the ordinary!
CONGRATS Marajade- how wonderful :) Wish I had gone to chapel after all ;)

Thought I'd change the subject and add to the sports comments now that the weekend is starting.
GreatBridge, what team does the hockey player on your picture belong to? Our kids all played hockey. I'm assuming you must be a fan. Our local team UAF (U of AK-Fairbanks) plays in the central conference with Notre Dame, Ohio, Michigan & Minnesota schools. Now we'll have to follow Navy. Any other fans out there? Good sport for those who like to go fast!

Sending a pm to more than one person is easy.
1. They all have to be your friend.
2. Click on "Inbox"
2. Click on "+compose"
3. The top box should be Send T:
Just underneath that will be words like "Select from friends"
Click on this - your list of friends should pop up.
Check your selection.
4. Enter you subject and message
5. Hit send - that is it.

Remember that if you send out a group message and one of the recipients responds to your message, everyone on HER friends list will get that response, whether or not a person was on your original list of recipients. Be careful when responding to a group message.
