My son is in boot camp and just got his letter saying he would be going to LSA school in Meredith, MI. I wonder if he wrote the wrong place? I only see Meridian , Mississippi . Does anyone know of an LS school in Michigsn?

Also, thank you Lynda for your story. I've been worried about my son's path as an LS. Worried that he'd be stuck in an administrative role and become discouraged with mundane clerk tasks. He is fine with his role and wants to take the opportunity to further his education. So glad to hear about your son's success. It affirm's the prospect of my son's goals and intent. I can't thank you enough.

Hello. I'm new to the group and have a few questions about departure and liberty following boot camp. I'm curious about other's experiences on the weekend following PIR. My son's PIR is 10/17 and I'm wondering if I should change my flight to depart home. Do they generally leave for A school in MS on Saturday or Sunday? Also, what has been the experience for liberty over the holidays and/ot in general?

Best of luck to your girls.  I am in the LS FB group also, I thought you were the one with the twins!!  They should have a wonderful career ahead of them in the Navy.

My son was not interested in LS, but when he DOR'd as a Navy Seal, this is where he wound up. As it turns out, this rate has worked out well for him.  He spent 3 years on  a missle cruiser ported in Japan, overseeing helicopter parts, and also became a rescue swimmer.  He also got to see the world and places most of us must dream about. He then spent 6 years in HI, the first 3 as a support to  SEAL team 1.  later he was at the Marine base, and had time to go to school and earn his BS, he also met his soon to be wife in Honolulu!  He is now on the USS Vandegrift ported in San Diego. He has done well in his 10 year Navy career and advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class. so, LS has many opportunities, and it is also one of the jobs the Navy really needs, so there is little fear about getting cut from the Navy since they are downsizing.  Are you in the Logistics Specialist group on FB?

Hi Argal, Bootcamp is about 10 weeks, A school is 8 weeks. Sometimes they don't start A School right away and may be stuck at Great Lakes for a period of time. They usually pretty much shut down over the Christmas holiday, so I would bet your son will home for Christmas. He will also need to know what his orders will be for his first duty assignment, so that may factor in as well.
