Well..it has been over a week...today I am missing my son like crazy! I find myself wondering what's his doing, how things are going, how he's eating! While I am so proud of his decisions; today's a rough day. I have found so much support on this site..you guys rock and I'm thankful!! I'm still waiting for "form letter"...getting overly anxious! Does anyone know..The hotels in the area at GL...do they have a kitchen in them...A stove to make Thanksgiving dinner!!?

My son left on 10-6-15 and I feel your pain. I am missing him like crazy too. Today is hard for me. We have not gotten the box yet and I know the letter probably won't come until this coming week sometime. The house is so empty without him. My youngest son is still here and I'm glad about that; but it just isn't the same. I miss their squabbles and I even miss the way he would just leave things (trash, clothes, etc) where he dropped them. Funny, it always irritated me so that he was not neater and now I miss it. No more messes from him after boot camp though.  :)

As far as hotels, I have not explored that yet; however, I would suggest checking Travelocity. You can choose specific amenities tat you want and they have reviews. We have always had good luck with them.

Just an FYI--church families in the area adopt a recruit for Thanksgiving. My son said he was going to take advantage of that. Not sure that they have any other options other than that or stay on base. At least, that is the impression we had from his recruiter.

Stay strong. Together, we will get through this.

Maryland.  Where are you located?  So far, most of the Moms that I have been talking with are from out west, Wisconsin or Texas.

We got the form letter (well, yesterday now). Its after midnight here. Dec 4 graduation.

I hope that you are doing better today. Each day gets better (emotionally), still miss my son like crazy.

Take it easy and have a good day.

Punkysmom, I feel your pain!  Yes, we are proud Navy moms, but the presence of our boys not around & no contact is so hard.  Is grocery shopping hard for you?  I miss getting my boy his favorite things.  I feel lost when I go shopping.  Getting his box was not emotional, I felt like he got a new uniform for his team, like a collegiate athelete, but this is so much more than that!

Still waiting for my letter & PIR date....   On this site they have detaied info about PIR & the military hotel near the base for 65 a night.

@Cameronsmom...hope things are going better for you. I have good days and bad days. I try to think more about how proud I am; over how much I miss him.
@Danielsmom....random times are harder than others...my son and I would stay up late and eat munchies...or go to the gym....doing laundry was hard when I came across his clothes and took them to his room...and it was so quiet. Where are you from? My son's PIR is 11/25. We did book hotel at NavyLodge...can't wait...6 more weeks!

Looks like you can adopt out your SR for Thanksgiving--have to be within 50 miles and they have to check back in at night--see lemonelephant's posts---she is great source of info.  Our recruiter told us wrong. He said you had to live within 50 to have them over for Thanksgiving.

I'm doing a little better thanks...only cried 6 times yesterday and 4 so far today. I haven't done his laundry yet or straightened his room up, I know that will hit me hard, but working and cleaning will help.

Hello, to Missing My Son....So am I.  Rob left 5 days ago and I'm still a mess.  I miss the talks we had after his nights out.  He would come home, check to see if I was sleeping and come in flop on the bed and we would just chat about anything/everything.

I see his car (his baby) and I took it for a ride.  The CD he had in played "You're gonna miss me when I'm gone", the first song.  How fitting, I pulled over and cred for so long.  I can't wait for graduation.  I read after, he will have time to spend with us and the next day he will ship out to the designated base.

I haven't gotten the box yet.  I told my husband I will probably sleep with it.  :)  He said, we raised Rob well which I already knew.  I am VERY proud of our son, right now I just need to remind myself of it.
