@Denise-Seabea Mom...My SR's first check went through her bank account a few days ago. How will I know if picture money or uniform money was taken out of her check before it was deposited?

Until PIR, only your recruit can order photos, cds, etc.  A couple of years ago, they allowed parents to order (by fax) photos, cds, for upcoming PIRs.

During PIR, you can go to the Navy Exchange and order stuff but my understanding is the line is long.

After PIR, you can order by fax (need to get a fax form from the Exchange) - they'll need your new sailor's name, PIR date and Div #.  Here is the info if you want to give them a call to confirm this.

Navy Exchange Photo Lab Bldg.7626
2601 East Paul Jones St.
Great Lakes, Il 60088
Phone number 847-578-6205 Mon- Fri

The phone number was good as of 3 weeks ago.

Thanks BunkerQB! I did call and the number was good...and you're right about that only SR's are allowed to order. However, they did tell me that my SR's division won't be photographed til tomorrow and won't be ordering for a week and a half after that! Thanks to all of you for your help!!!

Denise (and others), they no longer deduct the photos from pay as they did when our Sailors were at the RTC.  As of last fall, possibly earlier, the process now is for the recruit to pay for the photo package, Division photos, Keel, and DVD, either with a debit/credit card or a check when they pick them up a few days before PIR OR loved ones and Sailors can go in and pay for them and pick them up on PIR day--remember that the line is often long on the day of PIR.  Also, know that the Keel is not included free in any package ordered on the day of PIR, but the SR can order a package that includes it free if done when they do the order about a week or 2 before PIR and save $30.  The Keel must be ordered in person at the RTC on or before PIR weekend and cannot be ordered by phone.

Yep, why can't they just leave things the same?  LOL

Does anyone know how much the package is with the keel so I can send the money to my son.

Comment by lemonelephant on April 19, 2012 at 3:58pm

You shouldn't need to send money because they do get paid, but if you choose to, it is about $170 for the DVD and photo package that includes the Keel.  It is $5 for division photos.

The best thing you can do is let your son/daughter know that you want the "whole package" and let them order it. That's what I did, and my son actually paid for it himself!! Wonders never cease!!
