DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Need help in understanding a separation code-- getting mixed information - and she wants to re enlist

Hi everyone, so here it is.. I need help in understanding the separation code for   jfc re-e3, everything I have read on this says its for a failure for prerequisite education, like not graduating high school- which she did,and submitted it- Legal and her recruiters say its a medical code.  How can i obtain the right information to fight this and get her back to BC.  Her recruiters have also said they won't work with her until she gets a code change.. this is very aggravating, and I don't know where to turn-- any suggestions?

Hey.  I would friend request "Craig" from Aurora, CO under the MEMBERS tab.  He is very good with things like this---retired sailor himself with son in now.  I know he has always said that the proper discharge code means EVERYTHING, not only for possible re enlistment but for her military record in civilian life.  So friend request him and discuss with him.  So sorry you all have to go through all of this.  My son is also out now....and he had to go through a similar situation (but when in the fleet, not bootcamp).  Prayers!

I believe that the RE-3E code listed above is incorrect. (Sorry Abby!)

I have searched all over the internet and yes, that is what is coming up on a lot of "military" sites. However, you need to go to the Navy docs to get the right explanation of the Separation code and the RE (Reentry) code.

BUPERS - Bureau of Naval Personnel-has a BUPERS doc that explains how to fill out the DD214 (Discharge paperwork). It is 1900.8.

The BUPERS doc 1900.8c is listed on Ship 5 right under the Chart with all of the RE codes as well as the Separation codes. Here is the direct link BUPERS INSTRUCTION 1900.8C . (To get to the SEPS codes (that's the JFC) go to the Index on the left. Find ENCLOSURES. Go to "2" and then click "Enlisted".) (For the RE codes. Again ENCLOSURES and go to "3" and click "Reentry codes".)

Here is the Separation code and info that goes along with it.

JFC - ERRONEOUS ENTRY (OTHER)    1910-130 - is the MILPERSMAN AUTHORITY doc that describes the policy for separation due to erroneous enlistments. Read ALL of it but especially look at 2. Policy and 4. Not Meeting Physical Standards (since her struggle was with the run OR PTSD) Here is the link to that doc :  http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/190... RE-R1,RE-1,RE-3E,RE-4,RE-6,RE-8 (These are the RE codes that can be assigned to this Sep code)  Erroneously enlisted, reenlisted, extended, or was inducted into a Service component (not related to alcohol or drug abuse). [Explanation of the Sep code]

Here is the Reentry code listed for RE-3E:

RE-3E Inducted/Enlisted/Extended/Reenlisted in error.

 

Here is the MARINE CORPS RE-3E code listed in the Marine Corps Separation and Retirement Manual.

RE-3E Failure to meet education standards. Assign when single disqualifying factor only.

 

(AND the AF also has an RE-3E reentry code with it's own definition.)

After comparing the "standard" set of Reentry codes that I could find on the internet against the BUPERS one...there are discrepancies in wording and definition...plus omissions. Since the Navy CG and Marines are "lumped" together on many "military" sites.

I seriously would tend to go with the BUPERS one since it is the Bureau of Naval Personnel.

Researching your daughters "history" on here ...I see that she went to FIT , then RCU  and then eventually Ship 5. I believe it was the run that was a challenge, then stress fractures. But then your first post on Ship 5 mentions "PTSD" for the possible discharge reason.

You need to go to her DD214 and find out what the explanation is for her discharge. BOX 18 - REMARKS (Don't post them) , 23 - "Type" and 28 "narrative" hopefully can give some detail to the "erroneous".

Box 24 - Should have ELS (Entry Level Separation as it was less than 180 days of service). Box 25 - is the Separation Authority. Box 26  - SEP code (JFC). Box 27 - Reentry code (RE-3E).

 

This is ONLY my personal research, not any definite answer...I am not Navy personnel.

 

As far as the Recruiters "not working with her"...I have no clue. It may have to do with the specifics of her separation.  RE-3E for the Navy is "Ineligible to Reenlist Without a NAVCRUITCOM Waiver". So I don't know why they want a code change...again the nature of her discharge.

Hi My son is on ship 5 also .he was put on there after two weeks of boot camp .they did all types of test on him and said that he had anxiety and they were sending him home.He is still on ship 5 and they said it would be another three weeks or so before he leaves .My concern is that the longer they keep him there it is not helping him at all he is getting more depressed and needs to come home .another thing is why do the recruiters let some of the recruits go through all this knowing that the kids may of had some problems in the past and they expect you to lie during moment of truth .It seems that they would have alot less persons going home if were telling the truth ,because some of the kids get started in bootcamp and make it half way through and they think they are doing ok then they get sent to ship 5.

@Thammer: Because the recruiters get paid as long as they go in...they don't care if they get kicked out later, they still got their money and their quota (though I have met some perfectly good recruiters).

I completely agree with this. My son is also on Ship 5 and being discharged and I am getting very little answers concerning this. I am upset because I did not get very good communication from my sons' recruiter until right before he went to boot camp as the recruiter was concerned that he wasn't going to make weight. He knew my son and my sons' personality, the recruiter gave us all false hopes. My son was told it will take several weeks until he comes home and I have no details. Very disappointed and feeling very lost right now.

Thank you all for the information.  I am already friends with Craig- here, and on FB I will contact him.  She has chosen to wait a year or two, and see what happens then.  She is starting a new Job on Monday- at least something is going in her favor- but yes ptsd.. her best friend died, and she was having issues with the run, at least her x-rays and Mri done here at home show nothing, so it's a bad sprain, not given enough time to the heal.  Still very saddened by all this, I plan on having her evaluated, and looking for a new recruiter..

It will be best if you let your daughter handle this herself. If she really wants back in and is aggressive and proactive enough about it, she'll find a way back in. If you fight with the recruiter he/she might decide you are a helicopter parent and that your daughter can't make her own decisions and that won't be good. Say you succeed in convincing the recruiter to issue the waiver and something bad happens to your daughter that is related to her issue, you would be wishing then that you left this matter as a bump on the road of life. She might actually like her new job a lot and things might turn out for the best after all. I hope this is the case because the Navy route sounds like a lot more aggravation before she gets the waiver.

UPDATE- She misses Boot Camp, and has decided to fight to get back in.  She is able to walk and jog a bit now without pain.  She is determined She will be a Sailor.!  I couldn't be prouder!
