ANYONE HEARD ABOUT THIS YET?

A fire broke out aboard the guided missile cruiser Hue City on Monday evening as the ship was crossing the Atlantic, the Navy announced today.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed, the Navy said, but there were no injuries and the ship continues under normal power.

The fire started in the No.1 gas turbine generator at 6:20 p.m., a Navy official said. A general quarters alert went out, and the crew responded to their duty stations. The fire spread through the stacks to the first and third decks, spawning smaller fires.

The Harry S. Truman strike group was crossing the Atlantic in the opposite direction as it returns to Norfolk. Sailors from the strike group boarded the Hue City and are helping assess damage.

The Hue City departed Mayport, Fla., on Friday for deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.

Morning Everyone!! I don't post often but wanted to tell everyone how wonderful and life affirming it's been to have this group during the last 9 months... Whether known or unknown... I thank you!!   We'll be there late - not sure if we're going to make the BEFORE...  but definitely will be on the Pier....  I'll be the one with the decorated  hat (my daughter's idea.... since it's close to Easter and VERY patriotic!)  Sent a pic to my son and told him to just look for it... easy way to spot Mom and the Fam.. Have a great day!!
