Giselda I think I may have met you at PIR, not sure I met so many. Are you from CT? We went to the airport and gave our son his thing and stayed but then we had to go back to the hotel. I think they have a great group and are all good friends. Were ya'll Div 155? Let me know if you have a facebook
Hi everyone, Giselda my son just arrived too. He is so excited, He said it is beautiful there and has already sent pictures from the plane! He said he got really lucky and will start Monday. What is the Facebook page ya'll are all on. I found families of Groton I think..
Welcome Giselda and Congratulations to you and your new Sailor! Such an exciting day we all know you've had :-D Are you meeting him at the airport? Does he fly out tonight? That's what our son did last year on June 8th right after graduation on June 7th. Such wonderful memories. We were there to watch him arrive at O'hare and exit the bus with all of the other young Sailors that night, what a sight! ALL so handsome and ready for their journeys. Stayed with him until their flight departed at 10:40 am for New London. Now here we are just a few weeks away from him graduating A school and coming home for leave! Can hardly believe all that time has passed. Your son will enjoy himself in Groton. So many adventures await him. FATHOMOM is right strict base and all the better for it! Follow the rules to a T and he will do great! Lots to stay focused on and keep him busy. You will enjoy this forum so many wise and helpful ladies to get you through this journey!
Giselda - Welcome, Congratulations and Hooyah! You have a Sailor! On to the next step of his NAVY journey! I wish him well in all he does! YOU too! Our son has been at Groton for just about one year - loves it there. They are a strict base and hold our young men accountable. It is quite different than BOOT - he will enjoy it. Yes, they are able to stay on base for A school. It will be a while before he starts A school. During the next few weeks there will be qual's to meet, lots and lots of cleaning, watch. The courses before A school are BESS (basic enlisted sub school), Techno and ATT (advanced technical training....i think). Hopefully he does not have to wait too long before he "classes up" (starts class). We are here for you. BIG NAVY MOM HUGG!
A Happy and Blessed Easter to all Momma's!
Cath Bubblehead - I too am moved and inspired how you are dealing with your son's marriage decision. You are so right in doing so - we do our best to welcome with love. That is just about all we CAN do! May God guide them in all they do with love, health and happiness too.
Fair Weather and Following Sea's to ALL who are heading out to the fleet!
navymom2013- Yes, our son is also going to Hawaii! He will be on the USS Columbus. We're under the impression he will be home for at least two weeks. We know he has plenty of leave time after detaching from Groton and before his arrival date in Hawaii. He didn't come home for Christmas he knew there was supposed to be a pocket of time after detachment from New London. I really don't understand how they use and earn leave especially when they are in between duty. Maybe someone else does?? I just know he has plenty stockpiled :-) I'm with you budget and time off keeps us from travelling. But that's okay I'm a firm believer that good things come to those who wait :-D And yes I will start that Hawaii fund!!
SoProud your post made me teary eyed reading it (happens a lot on here reading posts) I am so happy for you. God bless your son and so thankful he had safe travels.
marlene and Mattsmom-Congratulations to your sons! Wherever they go whether it's first choice or not our boys will certainly have an adventure ahead of them!
FATHOMOM- As always thank you for your guidance, wisdom and kind words!!
Cath Bubblehead-Wow, I am inspired by your ability to handle your son's sudden decision to marry. You're obviously going to be a very gracious MIL. And why not see the positive side that is the high road for you to take. May God bless them both with faith and love to keep their marriage strong.
Tysmom- Thanks for the invite I need to check out that NFM's Hawaii group! k-love- You are welcome happy shipping!
Britbrat2323- Our son put his dream sheet in during the latter part of A-school in late March. He found out a week later where he was going. His graduation date is May 8th. He did say that the turn-a-around on their dream sheets went particularly quick usually takes longer. But as usual things are always based on the needs of the Navy and I would imagine not all situations are going to be the same. That was our son's experience maybe someone else can chime in and kind of give an average. Hope that helps:-)
Thank you for your great shipping advise. Congrats to all moms and sons heading to their next adventure... These are rewards that make SubSchool worth all the effort:) now good luck to a new beginning, to the new challenges ahead- a Happy Easter indeed!
