It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Welcome back Jenny550. Congratulations to your second son for making this GREAT decision to serve. Good job raising two fine men to serve our country. Gosh I remember just barely over a year ago my high-schooler swore into DEP. It's hard to believe he leaves in less than two weeks.

Thanks for sharing that prayer MommaBB. I will be referring to it over and over starting in a couple weeks.

Thank you, I want to print this prayer and post it near my computer.

Comment by MommaBB on June 10, 2014 at 10:12pm
This prayer was posted by another mom on a different group. I wanted to share it here because we will all be needing it in few months! Father, in the coming days, I will need You, but my recruit will need You more!
Let him perform his tasks with a sense of duty, not of anger or vengeance. Let his reflexes be quick and his hands steady. Let his head be clear and his eyes sharp. Let his mind and body be strong and his spirit stronger.

God, please stand by my recruit and watch his back when he cannot!
Father, I love this recruit of mine! Take from me what he needs and give me what he does not.

I will pace the nights, if it means he gets some sleep.
I will deal with fatigue, if it means he will have energy.
I will carry his fear, if it means it gives him courage.
I will take his pain, if it means he is healthy and whole.
I will take his anger, if it means he is at peace.
Take my love and pride and let him feel it!
Let him know that I am with him every step of the way!
Please, take from me what You can; I give it willingly and with love.
It is all I have besides my prayers.
Above all, please help my recruit to achieve his goal of becoming...
A United States Navy Sailor!

This I ask on bended knee, that which I cannot do without YOU!

Amen

Hi everyone,

I first posted this in the wrong group, I think.  My son leaves June 17, anyone else?

A few hours ago I was resting after session at dialysis and my son comes in my room obviously in shock, shouting at me "do I take the JOB Mom?!"  His original ship out date was 7/7/2014.  So I was planning a Mother's Day dinner for my mother, sister and nieces and he was going to barbeque the turkey, his specialty. And his original job he expected to take was Culinary Specialist. When  I was looking forward to perhaps have professional chef in the family.  until that call came in.     He has been working at the local park district and working out preparing for his entry.   He had to make up his mind in 2 hours and he did to be an AO.    yes I am slightly disappointed I was hoping it would have been something else.  He told me was going to study for the crypt job.    But I am not hating his decision.  He had his eyes wide open.  He had did his research on many jobs and other expects of the Navy.  In fact his recruiters told him that he is making it easy for them.  He planning to make a full career of Navy and wants to complete his degree.     A few more hours and he will gone.  He has been my buddy for 24 years...so I its time to let go.

Sues162, my son is also scheduled to leave 11/10/14 and I plan on asking his recruiter about this when we see him on Monday.  I'll let you know what he has to say.

Son will leave for boot camp Nov 10, 2014. Any guidance on how they handle Thanksgiving and Christmas at BC?
Comment by MDESFRED on March 12, 2014 at 12:56pm

We were told by the recruiter that we also can't go to the airport and our goodbyes will at MEPS.  It must vary airport by airport.  She will be leaving Iowa.
