~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

ok so now I have another decision to make ,hotel and tickets are bought but the car rental prices are so high if I want one of the companies from the o'hare airport. I found some other ones where I have to take a shuttle but I'm so nervous traveling with my baby for the first time and alone :(

Thanks, Dianne.  I work for corporate.  Here's our policy, but if the discount is given in one place and not the other and the families are happy with the rates, it's all good.  http://www.marriott.com/hotel-prices/travel.mi  Since your son worked at a property, I'm sure you know how great the associate rates are!  We're staying at RI when we're in town for PIR and the rate is ridiculously GOOD!  That's my favorite perk!  :)

...and thanks for the correction on Courtyard just being Courtyard!  I should have known that since my son worked for Marriott hotels (including a Courtyard!) for a few years....but didn't!  Thanks!

Comment by diannep on July 29, 2014 at 3:42pm

EagleMom:  We have heard from many families in the past that booked through through Marriott.com that this discount wasn't available, but when they called the hotel directly, they got the rate.  Just passing along what others have been posting about these hotels over the past 4 years!  It is worth a try!

Comment by EagleMom on July 29, 2014 at 1:57pm

The Residence Inn, Courtyard (no "Inn") and SpringHill Suites are all Marriott brands.  Try Marriott.com to check availability or call the hotels directly.  Their corporate policy is not to offer a special rate at the hotel that you can't also find directly on their site.

elilam:  Should not be a problem for you to book 2 rooms at Navy Lodge in SR's name.  You may want to consider booking a suite at Residence Inn instead though....they have 2 bedroom suites, each bedroom with own bath, living room with pullout sofa, full kitchen.

Comment by diannep on July 29, 2014 at 12:57pm

If staying at Navy Lodge, they may ask that your sailor come by the desk at some point during Liberty to verify your reservation, but no problem checking in without your sailor present.

Comment by diannep on July 29, 2014 at 12:56pm

Hotels recommended by others on this site:

Navy Lodge (book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID).  Mile or so from RTC, simple but nice, renovated over a year ago, good rates

Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express....all about 4-5 miles from RTC, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR.  Call the hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.
