OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

AntsMom,

The recommended hotels are Navy Lodge (book under your SR's name), Courtyard by Marriot, Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, and it looks like Candlewood Suites too.  The last 5 are all in Waukegan/Gurnee, only 10 min away from RTC.  Book with the hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  No deposit necessary to book a hotel, so you should actually book ASAP!!

Are most hotels around the base decent? Anybody know where not to stay? I would like to book for the weekend soon.

Luce and it is to be expected. It is ok to cry. It is ok to be scared. I know this. We got to remember though out children are in no danger!!! That's what I am focusing on!!! Yes they are homesick, yes they are probably scared at times, but wow what a future they are going to have!!!!! Luce I added you as a friend and will give you my number. We will cry together anytime and give each other strength and encouragement!!! I made it through my first week on here private messaging a mom. Without her I may have went insane lol. I'm slowly finding strength!!! Right now I have it and am more then happy to lend you some!!

Happy Labor Day !!!! I'm feeling better today. I've prayed and know I have to stay positive. It was just hearing my son cry that got me so worked up. Him telling me numerous times he loved and missed me also got to me. I am a very strong woman and I have seemed to have lost my strength lately. I know he is safe and that is the most important thing!!! I know I will shed more tears and I will have more weak moments..... I'm a mom that comes with the territory right!?!?! Thank you all for being here for me when I am weak. When I feel like my world has caved in, when it's hard to take that breath, when I feel like I have no one or on where else to turn to. That moment when I feel like going to bed and not waking up until June 16th when it's time to drive to IL. I APPRECIATE ALL THE SUPPORT!!!!
