Got my first phone call Saturday around 3:25 CST! He sounded great and told me he was Mail Petty Officer??? Did I get this right with the title? Sure made me, his dad, and older sister feel better to hear his voice.

Navymom,

Any of the hotels that diannep listed are great!  I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan.  They have a hot serve yourself breakfast and an indoor pool.  A McDonald's is right next to this hotel too.

I flew into O'Hare and it was an easy drive to Great Lakes, like 35 minutes.  It is a toll road and I rented the IPASS with my rental vehicle for the convenience.  Didn't want to bother with exact change at the tolls. (Some manned, some not)

If your SR will be flying out for his/her A school, then you can stay at Navy Lodge no problem and he/she can visit you there.  If your SR has A school in Great Lakes, then please book at another hotel~~

Received my phone call today :) Such an enjoyable conversation w/ my son. He was also able to talk w/ his little sister. Of course he is homesick but hanging in there. Giving it his all!! Div 106

Oh- has to have wisdom teeth pulled Monday. Prayers for a speedy recovery!! Must train!

ncnavymom:  No need to be embarrassed....I did the same thing when my son was there.  I was SURE I spotted him in a picture, printed it out, even took it with me to PIR to show him...he said:  Mom, that is NOT ME!  Hmmm....sure looked like him to ME!  They all look so much alike with their haircuts, uniforms, etc!  I hope it IS your son!

Just got off the phone with my son.  Ship 11 Div. 106.  He doesn't need to have his wisdom teeth pulled!  He sounded great!

Just got a call from my daughter.  Ship 3 Div 102!!!She got to talk for 20 minutes. Sounded so much better than last week! Sent her band-aids and she loved it!!  What else can I send for blisters?  She said a lot of the recruits have them!  Thank you everyone on this site for letting me know they would be calling this weekend!

Hey all! Has anyone heard anything on DIV 104 calling as of yet. By the way, on the pictures that was posted, I am almost embarrassed to say, I think that was my son on one of the pics! Now that's sad, not sure its my son or not!  lol

Fingers crossed that I will get a second call on Sunday, too!!!

I got a phone call today. The free phone cards I sent with him did not work. :( Someone let him use the rest of their minutes. We did get to talk for a couple of minutes and he sounded good. Thankful for the few minutes that we did talk.
