My son is leaving so soon... I am a nervous wreck. I have seen some of the videos and read some of the blogs and discussions and it has given me some comfort. My main concern is being out of the loop for the 8 weeks that he is away. He's extremely ecstatic, albeit a bit anxious. As his mother, I couldn’t be prouder, yet I am still worried and concerned for his well-being. Hopefully, through this mean I can communicate with other moms going through the same situation.

It feels very anti-climatic.  He was supposed to go in May but they called last week and bumped him up the list.

As you said I don't know what to do with his things.  I know he will be back but this is his life now and I don't imagine after being on his own for years he will ever WANT to live with us again. haha  We expected he would have the time to sort his things out and make plans for what we should do.  What he will want/can take once he is assigned and what he can part with.  What he would want to sell or give away, etc.

I feel a little cheated by the change in ship date but am trying to be strong for him.

I know what you mean.. I would love to keep his room intact but I don't even know for how long..
My son was supposed to leave in June. When they moved his date, I wanted to die. He was happy.. He just wants to get his Navy career started. I am very proud of him. Just wish he didn't have to go...

My son left to boot camp yesterday... It was the saddest day of my life so far. I literally felt my heart ache when he got on the bus to leave to the airport. I received his “I’m here” call at 1:50 am. I heard his voice quiver as he read the scripted call, but I knew that he was okay. I want to share with all of you that my son is a very special person. My son has always been smart, responsible, loyal, dependable, sensible, conscientious and mature. However, never in a million years thought he wanted a military way of life. He made the decision all on his own. He wants to serve our country. He felt a duty. And for that reason and many more I could not be prouder. He really is the best son a mother or any parent could ask for. I am honored to be his mother.

I wanted to thank all of you who have expressed to me a word of kindness, encouragement and also comfort. It is very much appreciated and it really means a lot.

I got my box today!!
That's great !!:)

Hooray!!  Did you do ok when you went through it?

I hope you are doing good and things are settling in ok.

Thanks Dlana!!

Yes Aimee, I actually did okay since I was expecting it.  It was nice t go through his things.  Made me sad but I did not cry. I just can't wait to receive the form letter to start making arrangements for PIR.  How are you holding up?

Me too, I'm ready to make the plans....I am wearing a path to the mailbox, but nothing again today.

I am glad you are doing ok.

I wish we could all go out for coffee and chatter about our kids and share pictures and stuff. Oh well. We can do that in May in GL, right?

Hi Aimee!! That would be awesome! It's nice to be able to have someone that you can relate to!!! Since we are both going through the same things! I feel like we have a lot of things in common!! I especially like your name... Wine... Yum!! Hopefully our sons will have the same PIR and we will be able to meet.

That would be so great!! It's very nice to have other moms who understand. I sure hope today is our lucky letter day!!!!

And thanks for the sweet comment about the name, whenever there is Aimee, there is usually wine :)

(Perhaps we will wine instead of coffee!)

I'm crossing my fingers that we do receive the letter today or this weekend!! I can't wait to start planning!I should've made that my name too. I like to have my wine as well. It's good for the heart. ;)
Yes, we can definitely plan it out. :)
