N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I received a call from my son this morning. He is part of Ship 11 Division 351. He was able to talk for just a couple minutes. It was good hear from him. After receiving his first letter yesterday, I was a little discouraged because he wasn't more positive and excited about his experiences so far. Today he sounded more upbeat and settled. Just as we are on an emotional rollercoaster so might our sons and daughters. I greatly appreciate this site and all of you as we travel on this journey. Counting down the days until 10/16. Hope everyone has a great weekend and that you hear from your SR.

I'm glad you were able to get through.  That is the same thing that happened with my son. When he got to call his wife to tell her about the change last week he said he really likes Div 949.  We still haven't gotten a personal letter from him- hoping that is soon.  Let me know if you get one :)

They can write as many letters that they have time for. :-) Even though it is Holiday routine, recruits need to make sure they are caught up on all their duties and studying first. Some use the "free time" or rather need it (especially in the beginning when it is also new) for this reason and so letter writing time is shorter.

They only write during Holiday routine on Sundays in the beginning.

As BC progresses they may be permitted time during the week to write. Depends on the division, RDC and individual recruit..so while we give a parameter there is not a "norm", as we are seeing some that write in the first week, during p-days, during lights out, etc.

I would say that I have read several times that a recruit reports that their RDC makes sure they are writing home :-)

Diannep -- you wrote that the SS can only write letters once a week (Sundays?).  But they can write more than one letter at that time, can't they?  As in, one to parents, another to grandparents,  etc....

Yes, I have sent a card every day with a note about what is going on, especially about how his wife is doing - that was his biggest concern about boot camp, but she is doing really well.  I have also printed off 2-3 pages a day of cartoons & funny stories from some of his favorite websites and put those in the cards. I promised him I would write a lot but he hates writing by hand.  If he could type out a letter & mail it I know I would get one every day!!
