Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

And always remember, when you think you have a pretty good handle on things, they change, after all it's the Navy. I have been around for 4 years and I am still learning.

Misn - there is no set time, it is generally a reward for a group accomplishment. Keep your phone with you at all times because it really sucks to miss that call.

Good morning fellow Michigan moms. My son is at MEPS in Lansing today getting ready to enlist in the Navy. He took his ASVAB yesterday (and did great) and is doing medical and everything else today. I was in the NAVY 20 years ago (did my processing in Lansing, strange how everything comes full circle) and his dad is still enlisted. He is a Senior Chief with 20 years in May, so luckily we know a lot of the information already, but it is definitely different being on the Mom side of it all.

Misn my bby, i cannot remember what hotel I stayed at but it was one recommended in the communication you will get about PIR (graduation). You will get that several weeks before the date and it should provide all the information you need. Your sailor recruit will be able to give 4 names for attendance to PIR. I recommend you and your son visit a lawyer before he leaves and get a POA so that you can take care of finances. If he is also willing to name a family member for medical POA that would be great. Should anything happen, you will be kept in the loop. Our kids don't always realize how important it is to do this because they think they're too young to think about such things. I have handled a number of financial transactions for my son, including car purchases (I recommend your son keep his Michigan license and register all his cars in Michigan no matter where the Navy sends him). Welcome aboard and good luck to your son. Get to know some other military moms for support and advice. It can be a hard journey for us too. Do you have other children?

Colleen - sorry to hear about all the surgeries, but you must be doing ok now since you took on another job. Glad your son will be home for Christmas. Does he know what he would like to do after he completes his service in the Navy?
Lorraine - I am not sure if Katie plans on taking college courses while on shore duty or not at this point. She just started on Nov 16 on shore duty after 7 years of sea. So she adjusting to her move and the 5 hours away from Stephen. Right now she is concentrating on learning everything about her new base and surroundings and has leave over Christmas. Something to ask her about after the 1st of the year.
Angela - That is great that you son will be joining the Navy! It has been 7 years since my daughter's PIR, so I am not sure what is the best hotel in the area.

So glad for your update, Colleen. Sorry about all the surgery but hope you got the right result. And hug that sailor tight this Christmas. It won't be long before he's out and you'll see more of him. Are you counting down to retirement? I can't believe it will be 4 years for me the end of January.

I'm here! It's been a while since anyone has been on. I've had surgery on both of my wrists & elbows - July & Oct. So that was a set back. Got a part time job along with the full time job. I will have my Sailor home for Christmas! He'll leave the day after, go back to SD and be deployed in Jan. On his way home for Christmas, he is going to fly to see my Mom so she can see him, for the first & only time before he gets out in July (7 yrs), in uniform. I wish I could be there. He is only staying for 1 day with her, so I can't spend $400+ just for the day. I will visit her in early 2016. My daughter is still in TN, so with starting a new job, we won't get to see her over the holidays. *sigh*
Glad to hear everyone is doing well and getting to see their Sailors.
