OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

The shooters (possibly 3) are still at large - over 20 confirmed injured & they say there are fatalities.....been going on for a couple of hours now. Senseless violence....I just don't get it.

Buzzbeck - glad you had a nice time in Charleston - beautiful place to visit! I'll bet your sailor was happy for the visit too! There are no official photos taken - maybe you can find someone on here who is going & PM them your sailors name & they can get pictures for you.

britefuture - yep, I imagine they aren't used to having much "down" time lol! Tell him to enjoy the quiet while he can ;-)

boconavymom - sorry you won't have your sailor for the holiday's. Hopefully he has a good group of buddies in proto & they can all hang out together for Christmas. That's what mine did last year - they all got dressed up in their suits & had a nice "formal" dinner at one of their buddies houses. I got some nice pictures ;-) Won't get to see him this Christmas as the Truman is deployed...

It was a heavenly 70 deg when I left Charleston, and 32 deg and freezing rain back here at home in the NW. I do believe that the home cooked Thanksgiving meal, reassuring words, and just hanging out was what our sailor needed. I'll miss A School graduation this Friday, but that's OK. Are any official photos taken?

boconavymom- wow the end is coming, hopefully graduation will happen while you are there. I don't recall where you are from however, when I was up there in March for my sons graduation, it was -4 degrees and lots of snow. Burrrrrr, it was bone chilling cold.

My crazy Sailor is sitting next to me playing on his computer. He's struggling with what to do while he's home. I suppose he's so used to having someone tell him what to do and when to do it that when he's here, he feels a bit lost. It's been raining here for the past few days so I can't even put him on a tractor to do some work. Darn it!!!!!!!!

I hope you are all well and gearing up for more holiday time.

Also, he told me last Saturday, NY prototype graduation may not be on January 15th. If anyone hears about a new date before I do, please let me know.

We have tickets to arrive Jan 13th and leave the 18th. I pray its during those days!

britefuture - wow, a lot happened on your son's deployment. I guess with 5000+ people that's not unheard of - just unfortunate. So glad the crew offered great support. That's nice to hear! Glad your sailor is able to spend time with his grandparents - I'm sure it means a lot to his Mom Mom. Hugs to you!

Comment by britefuture on November 30, 2015 at 7:38pm: Hello everyone. First let me speak on the sad news for NancyJo- How incredibly sad. I'm sorry to hear of your ex-husbands diagnosis. My son was riddled with bad new as he made his way through the pipeline. First his grandmother, that he is very close to, was diagnosed with Huntington's disease. She took a sudden turn for the worse. This was when he was still in school. He was able to come home for a few days to be with her though, so that helped him. After he left for deployment, my Aunt died, suddenly, of a heart attack. She was the pillar of our family and the self proclaimed, "wild child", of our family. He took the news very hard. He had only been on his ship for two weeks and knew almost no one. His ship was on a world tour and at that time was in the Middle East so no chance that he could come home to say goodbye. I came here and received immense support and advice on who to call. I spoke with the ship ombudsman who was absolutely wonderful. An hour after I spoke with her, I got an email from the ships Chaplain expressing his condolences and assuring me that my son would be well taken care of. I also received a letter from the ships Captain, also expressing condolences. They allowed my son to call home a few times from the ship. The Captain forced him to go to support groups a few times a week. That being said, believe me when I say that your son will have support while deployed. It isn't the same as being home but my son said it helped to know that they had his back. On an interesting note. When I spoke to the ombudsman, she said that the ship had 8 family deaths in that same week. So again, there was lots of support. It's so hard to let our babies fly when we want to hold them under our wings. We just have to have faith that we've given them the tools they need to cope with such horrible news. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Well, I said goodbye to my daughter today. She, her hubby and my grandson left for Texas this morning. Very bitter-sweet. I haven't seen my Sailor boy since Thanksgiving night. He called me tonight to let me know he's okay, just enjoying time with his grand parents. He said that his Mom Mom isn't doing well but she did smile when he got there. He's been helping to take care of her.
