I should add that my son is somewhere in the Atlantic on a submarine and this is the first separation for the 15 month old granddaughter. She is missing her daddy. I can't even imagine what might run through their little minds with the sudden disappearance of a parent. I sent a picture book from my visit in April that I hope will help. I took pictures of them together. I was so glad I got to hug my sailor before he left. Then I stayed  a few more days and had fun with DIL and the grands. I sure hated to leave. 800 miles doesn't lend itself to as many visits as I'd like but we've managed 2-3 months apart since her birth between them being home and me going out there.

Welcome, Rach and MommaH, So good to have new members. We're not always active but this is a great group so just throw out your questions in the regular discussion here and someone will answer. There is also a Navy Moms in Michigan Facebook group if you're interested. However the nice thing about Navy4Moms is the information you will find everywhere. Search for your sailor's ship/boat and join the group. If your sailor is submarine, join Sub Moms and look at all the files there that will help you with terminology, your sailor's duties, and other information of interest. Sometimes we have get togethers and information will be posted here. I'm in the SW quadrant, mommaH (eastern side of it) and I hope we will have a meet up for us mommas soon.

Hi mommaH, is your son headed out of the country, or one of the coasts? What's his rate? My daughter's first duty station was Sasebo Japan.

Welcome Rach!!!

You may want to delete your comment because you have your daughters name stated; for safety reasons. OPSEC, guidelines.

My sailor is currently deployed somewhere in the Pacific on a sub. He will soon be coming in. We are going to HI for homecoming. So excited!!!!

Welcome aboard, it can be a wavy ride and there are lots of ladies who have experienced what you will be going through!!! No question is looked down upon.

Welcome Rach, my daughter is a DC and has been in for 7 1/2 years. She was in Sasebo Japan for 3 years, then in Norfolk for 3 1/2, now she is doing 3 years of shore duty. So is your daughter an EM?

Welcome Rach.  We are all over the state.  I'm from Madison Hgts., Royal Oak area originally, but am now in Rockford, north of GR.  It is best not to post last names.  There are crazy people out there.  Nice to see another female sailor.  My son is getting ready to get out after 7 years.  Time has flown.  What is your daughter's rate?  I can see how proud you are!
