I, too, am guilty as charged for not keeping in touch. Thanks Cindie for keeping us on our toes to remind us. Justin has re-enlisted. He was stationed in Oak Island, WA until last August. Went on 2 tours to Qatar-liked it both times. He's been very fortunate to not have to serve ship duty as he'd prefer not. He's an IT now stationed in Ft Meade, MD. since we live in FL much happier he's there. Last April he married a former Navy girl and we so love her and her 2 little boys (5&6) from a prior marriage-it's like they've always been a part of this family. Now Feb 10 they are expecting a little girl and we all will fly up there-but not looking forward to the cold. The Navy has been so good to him and they have a beautiful townhome on the base-it's such a gorgeous base. We all stand Navy proud of our kids (we call our daughter-in-law our kid) and are very thankful to each and every military person for our freedom and their service.

Hi everybody, checking in per Cyndie's urging. Justin is an IT stationed in Whidbey Island, WA (he went there last May). He loves his job and the Navy. He is getting prepared for his first deployment that will happen in the next several months. We got to see him for 2 weeks at Christmas when he flew home. Goodbyes are really rough...I can't seem to master that yet. Miss you all!

Gail, enjoy your time to the fullest with Eric as I know you will.

I had one of those 'mom' moments and I know you all know what I mean. The news set me in full blubbers talking about Afghanistan. Knowing Justin time for deployment is probably coming up soon and knowing now how everybody's kids are like my own. I just couldn't take it. I miss him being here so much (would you believe my eyes are even tearing up as I type this).

Maryellen you all have a wonderful wonderful time and wish them well from all of us. I'm glad that some of you are getting to see your sailors. Our son was going to come home last month but he didn't want to come home for just a couple of days so he plans to come home for the holidays if he can. That will be wonderful-they just weren't the same without him last year.

I went to Atlanta last week for 2 days. There was a huge population of military there when I went and again when I came home. On the way home I struck up conversation with 2 guys and asked if there was a base or boot camp around and he said no maam (of course) that it was those coming in from deployment but he and his buddy was going out. They were all Army and I guess it's a big hub for them. I wanted to hug each and every one of them (mom in me).

As I was flying back this young girl was trying to use the pay phone with coins and having troubles so I felt this pull to help her and told her I was a 'Navy Mom' and would she like to use my cell phone. Told her to please take her time and call all that she wished. She was so sweet and yes maamed me. I just hope that when my son is out that some other mom/dad/etc would look out for him (she looked about Justin's age-19). Ya know...that just made my heart feel so very very good.

Maryellen, wonderful, fantastic, stupendous (and all those excitable words). I'm so very very happy that you can both be there. It would've been a hard egg to swallow for you to not be able to share in that day with her. So happy for you all!

Gail that is wonderful news. I know you're proud.

Maggie, that is fantastic. I know you're proud. We hear from Justin only about once per week. He's loving his IT duties in WA. He works M-F 9am-4pm (but his relief comes every day at 3pm and tells him he can go) and he gets a 2 hr. lunch. I told him, boy oh boy is that kind of schedule not the real world at all. He's waiting for someone new to get assigned there so that he can make some friends. They have this crazy rule that they can't socialize with anyone at a higher rank than he is-so he has absolutely no social life because he's the only one there at his rank. He says that they don't often get new people there that he was lucky because somebody retired and he took their position. Don't know if that's good or bad. He was going to come home next month, his commander encouraged him to do so as most take time off often, but he doesn't want to come home for only 5 days so he's saving up for Christmas. Gosh, don't know about you ladies, but I just feel so very lost without him here. I know it's good for him and the country but the selfish mommy side of me wants my kids nearby. I think it's effecting our 13 yr old daughter. She's been a bit hard to get along with and we think it's because she misses her brother so much but she says no (of course). Well I'm off soon to our Navy 4 moms luncheon. There'll be about 15-20 of us and we pack many boxes to ship for the adopt a sailor program. Great group of women I've met from our Central Fla get togethers.

Wonderful news. Thanks for sharing. It's sad that you won't be able to be there though. I wish them well.

It's my pleasure, Maryellen. I can see that letter touched all Navy moms as it did for me-but I expected that.
